John Henry Rusher, 90, of Benton, IL, died at 12:35 p.m., Friday, July 8, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family.
Mr. Rusher was born February 22, 1926 in West City, IL., the son of Willie and Fannie (Talley) Rusher. He married the love of his life Lida Mae Miller on December 24, 1945 and she preceded him in death on July 23, 2010.
John was a United States Army Veteran and served during WWII. He had previously worked at Jerrell’s Shell and then retired from the Benton School District as a custodian and school bus driver. John was a loving father, grandfather, friend to many and was known for his compassion for others. He always insisted on putting others before himself and being humble. John enjoyed being outdoors and taking in the fresh air.
Surviving relatives include his five children, Barbara Jane McCoy, Benton, IL, Richard Rusher, Owensville, IN, Christy Davenport, Henderson, KY, Kathy Rusher, Benton, IL, Steve Rusher, Evansville, IN, eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a brother, Larry Rusher, Chicago, IL, several nieces and nephews, his special pet dog, Heidi.
Mr. Rusher was preceded in death by his parents and wife, a brother and sister, James Rusher and Lucy Fulton.
Family and friends will meet for a graveside services at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery, Benton, IL., with Pastor Ron Cremeens officiating.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Pate Funeral Home, 301 S. Main Street, Benton, IL.
