Galen L. Hamburger, 72, of Tamaroa IL, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017, at the Pinckneyville Community Hospital.
He was born on January 26, 1945 to Dedrich and Thelma (Morrisey) Hamburger in DuQuoin, IL. On September 27, 1969 he married Mary Bourland and she survives. Galen retired from General Cable Company in DuQuoin.
Galen was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking.
He is survived by his loving spouse of 47 years Mary Hamburger; three sons, Jeffrey Dale Hamburger of Sesser, IL, James Dedrich Hamburger and wife Beth of O’Fallon, MO, and Galen David Hamburger of Troy, MO; four grandchildren, Kelvan Faro, Sierra Moore, Ethan Hamburger and Kamden Hamburger; a brother, Bill Hamburger of DuQuoin, IL; and a sister-in-law, Amanda Hamburger of Herrin, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Wayne Hamburger; and a sister, Esther King.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Pate Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., Benton, IL.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., at Pate Funeral Home, Benton, IL.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Military rites will be performed by the Benton American Legion Post 280, VFW Post 2671 and the United States Navy Honors Team.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Administration or Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
