Rauner: State trip isn’t campaigning

Bruce Rauner launched a two-day tour paid for by his campaign fund on Tuesday, insisting the statewide flyaround “has nothing to do with the election” even as Democrats line up to unseat him in 2018 and his approval ratings sag. The first-term governor started the day touring a suburban Chicago factory, where he told employees “we’re working for you every day to try to help you have a better life.” He then flew to Rockford and several other stops before an appearance at Fulgenzi’s Pizza & Pasta in Springfield near the Illinois State Fairgrounds. He also has five scheduled events Wednesday in southern Illinois, Quincy and Champaign. “The core values of our Republican Party are the core values that make America the greatest nation on earth, and they are the values that are gonna make us the majority party in the state of Illinois again,” he said in Springfield.
