Flood advisory issued for Franklin County

The National Weather Service in Paducah has placed Franklin and surrounding counties in a Flood Advisory until 2:45 p.m.  There is a Flash Flood Watch issued until 10 p.m.

Jackson and Perry Counties are under a flash flood warning until

I have received reports from the Sesser area that State Route 148 has two inches of water over the road, one mile north of town.  The Sesser area has received four inches of rain overnight.  There are also reports of flooding on secondary roads in Northern Franklin and Southern Jefferson counties.

On the latest severe weather outlook from the Storm Prediction Center, there is no threat of severe weather.

* At 852 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain that will cause
minor flooding in the advisory area. Up to two to 3 inches, and
isolated higher amounts of rain have already fallen. Water has
been reported over a few roads in Franklin and Jefferson counties.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Carbondale, Marion, Herrin, West Frankfort, Murphysboro, Benton,
Carterville, Anna, Johnston City, Christopher, Jonesboro, Vienna,
Rend Lake Area, Sesser, Zeigler, De Soto, Crainville, Cambria,
Cobden and Royalton.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying
spots.

* At 828 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain across the
warned area. Up to two to three inches of rain have already
fallen. Water has been reported over Highways T and 51 by Law
Enforcement. An additional 1 to 2 inches of rain is likely through
mid morning. Flash Flooding will become increasingly likely.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Perryville, Murphysboro, Du Quoin, Pinckneyville, Elkville, Ava,
Tamaroa, Willisville, Grand Tower, Altenburg, Biehle, Alliance,
Daisy, Cutler, Dowell, Campbell Hill, Vergennes, Frohna, Oak Ridge
and Gorham.

FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM CDT THIS EVENING

The National Weather Service in Paducah has expanded the

* Flash Flood Watch to include portions of southern Illinois and
southeast Missouri, including the following areas, in southern
Illinois, Alexander, Edwards, Franklin, Gallatin, Hamilton,
Jefferson, Johnson, Pulaski, Saline, Union, Wabash, Wayne IL,
White, and Williamson. In southeast Missouri, Cape Girardeau
and Scott.

* Until 10  PM CDT this afternoon

* Widespread showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue to
produce locally heavy rainfall today. Tropical downpours have
been dumping up to 2 inches per hour in isolated locations in
southern Illinois.

* High rainfall rates could lead to rapid inundation of flood
prone roadways. Sharp rises in creeks and small streams may
occur. Low lying areas may quickly become flooded.
