George Alan Weed – Benton

George Alan Weed, age 81, of Benton, passed away at 8:07 a.m. Saturday, September 9, 2017 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital of Benton.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 16, 2017 at the Fires of Revival Chapel of Benton, with Rev. Dean Severin officiating. Burial will be in the Lindale Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Eldorado. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Fires of Revival Chapel of Benton.

Arrangements are through the Leffler Funeral Home of Benton.

Mr. Weed was born on February 23, 1936 in Indianapolis, IN, the son of George Weed and Challis (Johnson) Weed. He married the former Alice Riegel on March 24, 1981, and she survives.

Alan and Alice attended the Fires of Revival Chapel in Benton.

He left a teaching position at Purdue University to become the Human Resources Director for Freeman United Coal Company. He continued his interests in coal exploration and development up to the present time.

Alan enjoyed fishing, music, gardening, humor, and family.

Mr. Weed is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Alice R. Weed of Benton; his children: Elizabeth Cano and husband Angel of Avon, IN, George Alan Weed, Jr. and wife Jodi of Hernando, MS, Debra Weed of Avon, IN, Lowell Riegel and wife Debbie of Benton, Gary Riegel and wife Irma of Oakland, IL; grandchildren: Rachel Edwards and husband Daniel of Olive Branch, MS, Adam Weed and wife Lauren of Richmond, VA, Jacob Weed of Hernando, MS, Matthew Mugumya of Avon, IN, Sarah Mugumya of Avon, IN, David Riegel of Los Angeles, CA, Daniel Riegel and wife Lailah of Galatia, Dr, Brant Riegel and wife Dr. Daniela – Champaign, IL; two great-grandchildren: Isabela and Trent; a brother-in-law Everett Stanley of Plainfield, IN; two nephews and a niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Marilyn Stanley; and a nephew.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fires of Revival Chapel and will be accepted at the visitation and funeral.
