Agnes “Peggy” O. Gunter, 84, of Benton, passed away at 10:05 a.m., on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at Benton Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
She was born on May 25, 1934, to Corbett and Willie (DeVore) Owens in Clearwater , SC. Peggy was a Homemaker and Caregiver all her life. On June 16, 1955, she married James D. Gunter and he preceded her in death on March 29, 2014.
Peggy was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and enjoyed gardening, reading and listening to music.
She is survived by her two daughters, Gay L. Nutty and husband Michael and Shelia K. Simion and husband Lane; one granddaughter, Jayme Tubbs and husband Brandon; one grandson, Taz Simion; one great-granddaughter, Emily Tubbs; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one brother, Earl Ownes.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Pate Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., Benton, IL.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at Pate Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, 12:00 p.m., at the Pate Funeral Home with the Rev. Ryan Mulvaney officiating services.
Burial will take place in the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Memorials contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.
