CARL DILLION McCANN, 85, of Christopher passed away Friday, May 28, 2021 in Mt. Vernon, IL.
He was born in Spring Garden, IL on July 22, 1935, the son of Homer Russell & Alma Iva (Johnson) McCann.
Mr. McCann served in the U.S. Army from 1959-1961 attaining the rank of SGT., Combat Support Company, 1st Battle Group, 130th Infantry.
He was a member of the Valier First Baptist Church, where he served as Trustee. He was a member of the UMWA and had worked at Consolidated Coal as a welder. He was a member of the Sesser Masonic Lodge.
Carl was devoted to his family and friends and loved to attend family and church gatherings. He was always on hand to help with small engine problems, especially lawn mowers. He also served his church and the widows of his community by helping with repairs and building projects. Carl was a dedicated gardener , growing flowers and vegetables. He enjoyed assembling puzzles, feeding wild birds and spending time with his dog, Radar. His grandchildren liked to call him “Pa with the dog”. He will be remembered fondly driving his Ford pick-up truck and always saying hello to everyone he knew.

GreatGrandchildren: Eli Lewis, Hannah Lewis, Dylan Potter, Riley Potter, Jackson Potter, Brooklyn Price and baby girl due in November.
StepChildren: Robin Langston of Huntsville, AL
Kara (Doug) Howard of Murfreesboro, TN
StepGrandchildren: Nicholas Patterson, Matthew Langston and Danielle Langston of Huntsville, AL, Dara Howard, Delana Howard and Drew Howard of Murfreesboro, TN.

Mr. McCann was preceded in death by his Parents, by his 1st wife:Mary Ruth (Holman), by siblings: Junior Ray (Peggy) McCann, Wastina (Byford) Campbell, Freda Webb and by Brother-in-law: Robert Montgomery.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 2nd at the Valier First Baptist CHurch with Rev. Harl Ray Lewis & Rev. Kevin Bradley officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be in the Williams Chapel Cemetery in Ewing. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the Valier First Baptist Church Building Fund.
