Lyle Dean Bowlin- Elkville, IL

Lyle Dean Bowlin, 73, of Elkville, passed away on Saturday February 12, 2022 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale with his loved ones by his side, one day shy of his 74th birthday.

Lyle was born on February 13, 1948 in Franklin County, IL to Genevieve (Kirkpatrick) Samples and Geoffrey Bowlin. Lyle was a 1966 graduate of Zeigler-Royalton High School, he then moved to St. Louis, MO to marry his high school sweetheart Mary “Mandy” (Walters) Bowlin on November 11, 1966, together they had to two children Rick Bowlin of Fulton, KY and Cindy (Bowlin) and husband Chris Stover of Covington, GA and helped raise his niece Tammy (Rusty) Spinks of Cambria. He had six grandchildren Wade Bowlin, Branden (Sadie) Lewis, Seth Bowlin, Salena Bowlin, Jacob Bowlin all of Elkville and Maycee Bowlin of DuQuoin and one great granddaughter Wynter Jean Bowlin of Elkville.

Lyle enjoyed watching the St Louis Cardinals baseball and College Basketball. He also kept the stats for the Elkville-Zeigler-Royalton girls’ basketball Team and loved all of the girls and their families, they even named him “Papa Falcon”.

Lyle is survived by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and two sisters Phyllis Robinett and Diane Utley, one sister-in-law Joann Bowlin and several nieces and nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, his great granddaughter Oakley Renee Bowlin, two Brothers Howard Bowlin and Hobbie Bowlin and his grandparents.

Funeral services will be on Saturday February 19, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher with Pastor Scott Slone Officiating. Visitation will be on Friday February 18, 2022 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mulkeytown Cemetery in Mulkeytown.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Elkville-Zeigler-Royalton Girls’ Basketball Program and will be accepted at the funeral home.
