Charles Dwight Moore Jr – Champaign, IL

Charles Dwight Moore Jr, 91, passed away on December 4, 2023 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, Illinois.

Charles’ greatest legacy was his family. He never missed an opportunity to be with his family and extended family. He never missed a softball game, baseball game, or soccer game of his children or grandchildren. He loved his family fiercely and was as comfortable playing with GI Joes or Barbie with the grandchildren,

He was born on July 15, 1932 in Benton, Illinois the son of Charles & Bonnie (Shaw) Moore Sr. He married Patsy Parkhill on February 8, 1954 in Benton, IL.

Charles is survived by his wife, Patsy; daughters- Katherine Johnston (Kim) of Tamms, IL, Karen Edwards of Champaign, IL; three grandchildren, Amelia K. (Michael) Rinehart, Tyler W. Johnston and Aaron C. Edwards

He is preceded by his parents, Charles D. Moore Sr. and Bonnie (Shaw) Moore, son Kerry Alan Moore, brothers- Robert Z. Moore, Frank W. Moore & Jesse R Moore; sisters- Juanita M. Scrutchfield & Francis Rose Marie Schockley.

Charles was a Yeoman Second Class in the Navy where he received the Good Conduct medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal & National Defense Service Medal. He attended Southern Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree in history.

Charles worked over 30 years in law enforcement for both the University of Illinois and state of Illinois. He was a member of Webber Street Church of Christ & American Legion Post.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 PM to 12:00 PM on Friday, December 8, 2023, at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 Philo Road, Urbana, IL 61802. A second visitation & service will be held at 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Pate Funeral Home & Crematory, 301 S. Main Street, Benton, IL 62812.

Graveside Services will be held at 11:15 AM following the visitation at Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery, 12740 Oddfellow Lane, Benton, Il, with Billy Moore will be officiating and military rites by the Benton American Legion Post 280, VFW Post 2671 and the United States Navy Honors Team.
