Here is an excerpt) The Rangers basketball team led for most of three quarters in a 52-33 Tuesday night victory over Mt. Vernon. The Rams raced to a quick early lead, but it evaporated in the second quarter. Benton built a double-digit second-half advantage and cruised to victory. The Rangers entered the game ranked No. 6 in class 3A. & The Rangers finished with seven 3-pointers. Derek Oxford hit four from long range. He led all scorers with 16 points. “They hit some nice shots,” (Mt. Vernon Coach Doug) Creel said. “(Oxford) played well, hit some big shots. Like I said, they’re a pretty good basketball team.” Parker Williams added eight, and Gehrig Wynn finished with seven. & Mt. Vernon dropped to 7-18 overall this season. Benton improved to 26-2 this year.
