Nancy Vandom – Benton, IL

Nancy Ann Vandom, age 78, of Benton; passed away at 8:17 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at the Franklin Hospital Emergency Room of Benton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2019 at the Leffler Funeral Home of Benton, with Rev. Harol Whitlock officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery of Benton. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the Leffler Funeral Home of Benton.
Nancy was born on April 27, 1941 in Benton, IL, the daughter of James Blair and Eleanor (Chaffin) Blair. She married Emil “Bud” Vandom on September 22, 1959, and they spent 58 years in marriage, until he preceded her in death on February 23, 2018.
Nancy was a homemaker. She enjoyed baking pies and cakes. She also loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Nancy was a member of the West City Church of God.
Mrs. Vandom is survived by her children: Kim Hall and husband Dean, Veronica Smith and husband Chris, Buddy Vandom and wife Madeline, all of Benton; grandchildren: Mike Dunham, Travis Redden, Billy Vandom, Trever Redden, Timmy Vandom, Stacey Sheets; great-grandchildren: Kaylee McInturf, Fisher Vandom, Sawyer Vandom, Dillon McInturf, Shaun Redden, Liam Redden, Collin Redden, Lincoln Sheets, Kylie Dunham, Claire Redden, Clark Sheets; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and nine brothers and sisters.

Alcletha “Chick” Murray Furlow-Christopher

Alcletha “Chick” Murray Furlow, 98, of Russellville, KY formerly of Christopher, passed away on June 23, 2019.

She was born on January 14, 1921 in Sesser, IL to Arley Delmar and Lola Wanetia (Jones) Murray. She married Carl Furlow and he preceded her in death.

She is survived by her grandchildren Jeff (Kim) Furlow of Russellville, KY, Jennifer (Alan) Klein of Russellville, KY, Dawn Tarandy of Algonquin, IL, Allen (Cindy) McKeown of San Antonio, TX, Kelly (Danny) Flowers of Christopher, IL, Karla (John) Elder of West Frankfort, IL, John David (Lori) McKeown of West Frankfort, IL, Channa (Lloyd) Beardsley of Benton, IL, Erin Kinsey and fiancé Brad Absher of Marion, IL; two brothers Donald Ray (Loretta) Eubanks of Sesser, IL and Olen Ward (Vickie) Eubanks of Sesser, IL; and many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three children John Ennis Furlow, Delmar Ray Furlow, and Carol Jean McKeown, two Sisters Frances Friend and Juanita Dame, and three Brothers Edward Murray, Orville Murray and Stanley Eubanks.

She was a member of the Rend City Baptist Church and had worked in the sewing factories in Christopher, Zeigler and Herrin.

Funeral services will be on Saturday June 29, 2019 at 1:00 PM at the Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher with Brother John West officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at 1:00 PM. Burial will be at Mitchell Cemetery in Sesser.

Terri Jean Quillman-Mt Vernon, IL formerly of Sesser, IL

Terri Jean Quillman, 61, of Mt Vernon formerly of Sesser passed away on June 23, 2019.

She was born on June 26, 1957 in Cincinnati, OH to George Ort Sr. and Marlene (Roether) Ort.

She is survived by her children Andrew Hughes of West Frankfort, IL, Pamela Klug of Nashville, IL and Danny Hughes of Red Bud, IL; grandchildren Chelsea, Jacob, Kyle, Thomas, Megan, Kaylee and Ava; brothers and sisters Michael Ort of North Carolina, Pamela (Armondo) Camarillo of Sesser, Rosemary (Terry) Willis of Sesser, George (Maria) Ort of Sesser, Cheryl Ort of Sesser and Beverly (Michael) Wefels of Benton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother David Ort.

Funeral services will be on Friday June 28, 2019 at 7:00 PM at the Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home with Brother Chris Hottensen officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 PM until the time of the service at 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

Debbie Davis — Yulee, FL

Debbie Davis, age 65, of Yulee, FL and formerly of Benton, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2019 in Jacksonville, FL.

Debbie was born on May 19, 1955 in Benton, IL, the daughter of James Edward Mayer and Betty Joann (Leffler) Mayer. She married Tommy E. Davis on July 2, 1977 and he survives.

She formerly managed the Meals on Wheels Program for 18 years in Fernandina Beach, FL. She loved cultivating flowers, and often told her husband that doing so was her therapy.

Surviving is her loving husband Tommy Davis of Yulee, FL; cousins Steve Mayer and Cindy Neighbor, both of Shawnee, KS, and Susan Neville of St. Petersburg, FL; and her many, many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a daughter Shelley Davis.

Virginia Lee Wininger – Benton, IL

Virginia Lee Wininger, age 87, of Benton, passed away at 2:10 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2019 at her home.

A small gathering of family and close friends to celebrate the life of Virginia, will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2019.

Cremation arrangements are entrusted with the Leffler Funeral Home of Benton.

Virginia was born on January 19, 1932 in West Frankfort, IL, the daughter of Henry Williams and Georgia (Hamby) Williams. She was married to Russell Wininger in 1976, and he preceded her in death in 2002.

She was a former lead nurse at the Elgin State Hospital. She enjoyed her home visits by Pastor Alan Janneke from the St. Paul Lutheran Church of West Frankfort.

Virginia enjoyed gardening, shopping, dining out, telling stories, and especially loved spending time with her family.

Surviving are her children: Ruth Barry and husband Joe of Capon, IL, Morris Bonebrake of Abilene, TX, Betty Mathieu of Benton, Sheila Smith of Benton, Charlene Schwartz of Genoa, IL; 12 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; siblings: Ralph Williams and wife Loratta, Russell Williams and wife Gisela, James Williams, Geneva Herrell and husband John, Dolly Owsley, Lillie Wece and husband Albert; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her ex-husband Charles Bonebrake; and her husband Russell Wininger; an infant daughter Gracie Bonebrake, stillborn son Charles Bonebrake, 13-year-old daughter Patty Bonebrake; a brother Howard Williams; two sons-in-law: Bruce Smith and Michael Schwartz.

Everett Junior Eubanks-Sesser, IL

Everett Junior Eubanks, 93, of Sesser, passed away on June 17, 2019.

He was born on October 11, 1925 in Sesser to Everett and Blanche (Thompson) Eubanks. He married Geraldine (Webb) Eubanks and she preceded him in death on October 30, 2015.

He is survived by his children Larry Dale (Francine) Eubanks of Benton, Janet (John) Fauth of New Athens, IL, Randy (Jane) Eubanks of Sesser, Jean (Bob) Armes of Sesser and Tommy (Lori) Eubanks of Ewing; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters, four brothers and three infant siblings.

He was a coal miner and a member of the UMWA and a United States Navy Veteran.

Funeral Services will be on Thursday June 20, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Bear Point Free Will Baptist Church in Sesser with Brother Larry Cook officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday June 19, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home and on Thursday June 20, 2019 from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 AM at the church. Burial will be at Mitchell Cemetery in Sesser.

Joy Gay Reed — Benton, IL

Joy Gay Reed of Benton, passed away at 9:52 a.m., on Tuesday, June 4th, 2019.

Joy lived in the Wheeling/Elm Grove, WV, area most of her life and with her “green thumb” was an avid gardener. Joy was very athletic as she enjoyed dancing, particularly line dancing, aerobics, water aerobics, walking and babysitting her grandchildren. Also she was very active as a member of Stone Presbyterian Church of Elm Grove where she served as a Deacon, Elder, member of the kitchen crew, Hunger Cupboard volunteer and much more. Joy was an exceptional cook and particularly enjoyed working with the church group that participated in the Wheeling soup kitchen. Joy participated in a close knit bible study group that met for 40+ years.

When Joy was 75 she moved to Benton, IL, to be closer to her son Larry Wilson and his family. Joy joined Immanuel Baptist Church in Benton where she participated in several activities and groups. Joy loved to travel and meet new people. She took numerous bus trips visiting various states but especially enjoyed foreign travels.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Donald Wilson in 1950 and Willis Reed in 1997; her parents Paul (Petie) Porter on November 11, 1966, and Naomi Nice Porter on October 14, 1949; and her first son Gregory Wilson June 23, 2013.

Surviving include one son Larry Wilson and wife Resi, of Benton IL; a daughter-in-law Pamela Wilson of Walsenburg, CO; grandchildren, LaRe (CA), Wendi (IL), Erik (IL), Steve (CO), Russ (CO), and Gabe (CO) and 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Pate Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., Benton, IL.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Immanuel Baptist Church, Benton, IL.

Memorial services will be held at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 25, 2019, following visitation at the church with the Rev. Sammy Simmons officiating.

Greyson Eli Key was stillborn at 2:11 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2019 at the SIH Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

Per the parent’s request; there will be no public services.

Melody Ann Kristofferson – Benton, IL

Melody Ann Kristofferson, age 66, of Benton and formerly of Berwyn, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2019 at her home in Benton.

A Memorial Celebration of Life Services will be held at a future date in Berwyn.

Melody was born on September 3, 1952 in Neodesha. KS, the daughter of Donald Swan and Ellen Emogene (Weldy).

Ms. Kristofferson was a homemaker and formerly worked as a bartender at the New Town Tap in Berwyn, IL.

On occasion she attended the First United Methodist Church in Benton.

She enjoyed reading, painting, photography and loved her four-legged companion “Hugger”.

Surviving is her two children, a son Thadeus James “T.J.” Bornheimer and wife Amy of Wheaton, and a daughter Allegra Kanehl of Lyons, IL; four grandchildren: Tyler Martin, Cole Kanehl, Amber Rose Bornheimer, and Matthew James Bornheimer; two brothers: John Hermosillo and wife Donna of Benton, and Marty Swan and wife Martha of Franklin, WI, and their families.

She was preceded in death by her mother; and a brother Eddie Hermosillo.

Fay King, 88, of Mulkeytown, passed away on June 11, 2019 at Herrin Hospital.

She was born on November 2, 1930 in Mulkeytown to Lee and Wavia (Culley) Price. She was married to Noah King and he preceded her in death.

She is survived by one daughter Karen (Jim) Noto of Mulkeytown; seven grandchildren Jolynn (Frank) Vigiano, Shane (Lori) King, Jenny King, Wilton (Keri) King, Holly King, Travis (Leslie) Noto and Ashley (April) Noto; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; one sister Chloe Cook of Dowell; and one brother Carl Price of Mulkeytown.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sons Gary King, Randy King and Bruce King, two brothers, Leon Price and Neal Price and one sister Irene Price.

Funeral services will be on Friday June 14, 2019 at 1:00 PM at the Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher with Pastor Guy Webster officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at 1:00 PM. Burial will at Zeigler Cemetery.
