Marion L. Wells — Sesser, IL

Marion L. Wells, 89, of Sesser passed away on August 26, 2018 at his home.

He was born on December 5, 1928 in Scheller, IL to William Green and Beatrice (Bean) Wells.   He married Ruth (Hannah) Wells on November 25, 1950 and she survives of Sesser.

He is survived by his wife Ruth; children Mark (Tammy) Wells of Scheller, Ross (Lawanna) Wells of South Roxana, IL, John Wells of Sesser, Beth (Mickey) Kleiboeker of Waltonville, and Peggy (Alvin) Bernard of Belle Rive; 17 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; one sister Norma Jean Burleson of Belleville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, eleven brothers and sisters, one daughter-in-law Roberta Wells and one grandson Nathan Bernard.

He was a member of the Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for many years.

Funeral services will be on Friday August 31, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home in Sesser with brother David Shores and Brother Randy Kash officiating.  Visitation will be on Thursday August 30, 2018 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Old Baptist Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Calvin Mabry – Belleville, IL (formerly of Benton,IL)

Calvin Mabry, 90, of Belleville, and a former Benton resident passed away on August 20, 2018 in Columbia, IL.

Mr. Mabry was born in Benton, IL on October 13, 1927, the son of Calvin Ray & Vina (Robinson) Mabry. He married Patsy R. Williams on May 30, 1949.

Mr. Mabry served in the Marine Corp during World War II. He was the retired owner of Mabry Home Improvement.

He is survived by his daughters, Lynette (David) Rienbolt and Pam Tullous; grandchildren, Zac Rienbolt, Jenna (Sande) Zander, Ben (Chelly) Parish, Dustin (Kelly) Parish, Michael Parish; great-granddaughter: Diedre Zander; sisters-in-law Doris Mabry and Betty (Spank) Bowman and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Mabry was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Pat Williams Mabry, father and mother – Calvin and Vina Mabry, brothers and sisters: Freda (Barney) Shaw, Ray (Wilma) Mabry, Jim Mabry, Lou (Red)Conner, Eva (Nick) Shapkoff, Wanda (Paul) Wayman and by Son-in-law Charlie Tullous.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at the Masonic & Oddfellows Cemetery in Benton with Pastor Harol Whitlock officiating. Burial with Military Rites conducted by the Benton American Legion & VFW Post and the National Guard Honor Squad will follow in the Masonic & Oddfellows Cemetery. There will be no visitation, those attending the service are requested to meet at the cemetery.

Patricia Brown — Christopher, IL

Patricia Brown, 84, of Christopher passed away on August 21, 2018 at Integrity Healthcare of Marion.

She was born on February 24, 1934 in Urbana, IL to Daniel and Hollie (Atterbury) Shipps. 

She is survived by her children Teresa Lain of Marion, Jonathon Brown of Chicago, Nancy (Ralph) Loeschen of Mahomet, IL and Gerald Brown of Urbana,IL; grandchildren Daniel Brown, Jennifer Brown, Tabitha Lewis, Sally (Steve) Jamerson, Ralph Loeschen, Jason (Heather) Brown, and Charles (Angela) Loeschen.

She was the past president of the Bellflower American Legion Auxiliary.  She had worked at State Farm and the University of Illinois.  She was also the former director of the Christopher Library and a member of the First Christian Church in Christopher.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers Sonny Shipps and Phillip Erwin.

Funeral services will be on Saturday August 25, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher with Brother Jerry Aken officiating.  Visitation will be on Friday August 24, 2018 from 5:00 Pm until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Charles “Peanuts” Lutes – Christopher, IL

Charles ‘Peanuts” Lutes, 91, of Christopher passed away on Saturday August 18, 2018 at SSM Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt Vernon. 

He was born in Christopher on September 11, 1926 along with his twin brother Carl, whom he would often jokingly remind that he was five minutes older. He was a graduate of Christopher Community High School and was inducted into the U.S. Navy during World War II, stationed in Hawaii, and returned afterward to spend the rest of his life in his hometown, where he was an employee for many years at Bione Truck Line. 

He was dedicated to public service and the community that he loved.  A member of the Christopher Fire Department at an early age, Peanuts, as he was affectionately called, went on to serve for many years as Fire Chief of the Christopher Fire Department. 

He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 65 years Loretta (Mangin) Lutes on May 3, 2015.  He was also preceded in death by his parents Bessie and Charlie Lutes, Sr., a sister Laura Hicks and a brother James Lutes.  He is survived by a sister Emma (Lutes) Smith, a longtime Carbondale resident, now living in Effingham, his twin brother Carl Lutes of Carbondale, a dear friend Mary Gant of DuQuoin and many, many special friends and family. 

Funeral services will be on Thursday August 23, 2018 at 1:00 PM at the Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher with Jeff Troutt officiating.  Visitation will be on Thursday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park in DuQuoin.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Christopher Fire Department, envelopes will be available at the funeral home. 

Margaret O. Tennant – Benton, IL

Margaret  O. Tennant, 95, of Benton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 11, 2018, in Marion, IL. 

She was born on February 22, 1923, in Fairmont, WV.  

She was a member of Benton First Baptist Church and volunteered her time at various places within the community.
 
Margaret  is survived by her son, Joseph  R. Tennant and wife Julia of Benton; four grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
 
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Joseph L. Tennant.
 
Per her wishes cremation will take place.

Inurnment will be held at a later date in Barrackville, WV.

Sandra Kay Kern – Benton, IL

Sandra Kay Kern, 74, of Benton, passed away at 4:55 p.m., on Sunday, August 12, 2018, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL. 

She was born on January 27, 1944, to Jessie and Eloise (Jarvis) Dugger in Benton, IL.  Sandra was as a Retired Registered Nurse. She attended the Potter’s Way Church, Macedonia, IL.

Sandra was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, shopping and traveling.  Sandra spoiled her little dog Sammy and loved her to pieces.   

She is survived by her two children, Darren M. Hansen and wife Pam of Buckner, IL, and Dustin “Dusty” Forby of Benton, IL; twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Sandra was preceded in death by parents, Jessie and Eloise Dugger, husband, Blake Kern; former Husband and Dear Friend, James “Jim” Hansen; and son, Kyle M. Hansen.

Carol Parkin Bullington – Benton, IL

Carol Parkin Bullington departed this life and entered eternal life with Christ at the age of 74 on August 8, 2018 surrounded by her loved ones.

Carol was born August 7, 1944 in Chapel Hill, VA to parents William and Jeannette Olson.

She married Charles Sam Bullington on May 7, 1966 and they have resided in Benton, IL for the last 49 years. She worked as a CNA for 20 years and a Pharmacy Technician for 20 years while in Benton.

She attended and worshipped at the Abundant Life Apostolic Church in Benton.

She is survived by her Husband Charles Bullington; two children Charles Wayne Bullington and Pamela Annette Bullington, five granddaughters and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Friday, August 10th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Abundant Life Church, 707 East Webster Street, Benton, IL 62812. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at the Church with Bro. Chris Hammonds officiating. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Rend City following.

William Dale Williford

William Dale Williford, 72, of Macedonia, IL , passed away at 2 p.m., on Friday, August 3, 2018, at the Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, IN. 

Dale was born on February 12, 1946, to William Williford and Ona Lee (Woods) Williford in Charleston, MO.  On April 3, 1965, he married Linda Childers and she survives.   Dale retired after many years working as a truck driver and mechanic.

Mr. Williford was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed trail riding, attending rodeos, farm auctions and flea markets.

Dale is survived by his loving wife Linda; four sons, Wes Williford and wife Melissa, Todd Williford and wife Angie, Trevor Williford and wife Diane, and Cody Williford and fiancé Debra; nine grandchildren, Wes Williford, Jr. and wife Caitlin, Dalton Williford and wife Charly, Caleb Williford and wife Moriah, Colton Williford, Casie Doyle and husband Jack, Creek Williford, Ryler Williford, Bowen Williford and Seth Williams; seven great-grandchildren, Amilya, Isabellah, Paisley, Walker, Waylon, Ronan and Ebin;  two brothers, Grady Harold Williford and wife Lou, Fenton Williford and wife Shanon; one sister, Becky O’Neill and husband Billy; one step-brother, Michael Janes and wife Pam; a special cousin, Bubby Crow; and three special friends, Larry “Hokey” Kelley, John Robey and Luke Kelley; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

David “Mossy” Gordon Moss – West Frankfort, IL

David “Mossy” Gordon Moss, 59, of West Frankfort, passed away at 5:08 p.m., on Friday, August 3, 2018, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on April 7, 1959, to George and Darlene (Ponder) Moss in Kankakee, IL. On September 25, 1981, he married the former Debra Kay Montgomery at Valier Baptist Church, Valier, IL. David started his career working at Barton and Colins Furniture in Benton for over 15 years as a delivery and repairman. He then worked for T & T Carbide in Logan for 10 years as a welder. David most recently had been working at Aisin Manufacturing, where he had been employed for 13 years in the shipping and receiving department. David fought a courageous two year battle of cancer, and had a very strong support team.

“Mossy” was an avid sports fan, supporting Benton Rangers Football, Southern Illinois University Salukis Basketball and NASCAR. He was a loving son, husband, father and grandfather. His grandchildren will always cherish the afternoons they spent with him eating ice cream over the summer. David’s since of humor and personality would light up a room.

David is survived by his loving spouse of 36 years, Debra Kay Moss, two children, Stefanie Nicole Moss and companion Darrell Paulson and Dustin Cole Moss and wife Destaney; four brothers, Lonie Moss and wife Tracy, Stephen Moss and wife Kathie, Rich Moss and Darrin Moss and wife Dawn; his five grandchildren, Hunter Moss, Isabella Moss, Jayden Moss, Gianna Moss and Kay Moss; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Robert (Bob) Maurice Drennan – Ina, IL

Robert (Bob) Maurice Drennan passed away on Wednesday, August 1, 2018.  Born on April 21, 1935, to Byford and Juandola (Dot) Drennan, Robert has two sisters Carole Lewis and Gloria Richardson, and one brother Wayne Drennan, all who survive.

Robert married his high school love, Frances Evelyn Kirk, on May 29, 1955, who survives.  They have two children, Mark who married Susan Bond, and Anne who married Edward Hale, and one granddaughter Hallie Drennan, who married Randy Pollard.

Robert was a lifetime member and deacon at New Hope Freewill Baptist Church.

He farmed most of his life and also worked at General Radiator, the Mt. Vernon Police Department, and the Mt. Vernon Water Department.  Through the years Robert was active in many Jefferson County programs.  He also served on the Tri-County Electric board for 12 years.  Robert was active in the Masonic Lodge, holding many positions over the years and obtaining the Certified Lodge Instructor.

Robert enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, and bird watching.  He and Evelyn toured all of the North American states, with the exception of Hawaii, electing instead to return to Alaska by automobile.  They also loved the Canadian Maritime Provinces.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the upcoming August 26th benefit for the family of Robert and McClain Lea.  Donations can be made at the church.

A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, August 5th at the New Hope Free Will Baptist Church with Bro. Craig Smith & Bro. Dale Burzynski officiating.
