Ernest Wayne Upchurch, 80, passed away on January 22, 2018 at his daughter’s home in Downers Grove, Illinois, where he had been living the last three years.

Ernest was born May 13, 1937 in Franklin County, Illinois, the son of Charles Omer & Ila (Spencer) Upchurch. He is survived by his only child, daughter Donna Kaye (Todd) Chapin; grandchildren, Ethan Chapin and Kyle Chapin; and sister, Ruth Ila Morgan.

Family and friends are invited to attend the graveside service at Shiloh Cemetery, Whittington, Illinois on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 3 p.m. Services provided by Morton & Johnston Funeral Home.

Chris Meinert-Christopher, IL

Chris Meinert, 69, of Christopher, passed away on Tuesday July 31, 2018.

He was born on June 6, 1949 in DuQuoin, IL to Warren and Marie (Marlo) Meinert.  He married Paula (Palmer) Meinert on February 8, 1992 and she survives of Christopher.

Survivors include his wife Paula, one son Michael (Vanessa) Meinert of Valier; one daughter-in-law Autumn Meinert of Trophy Club, TX; four grandchildren Oliver Patrick, Ella Rose, Henry Coy, and Veda Marie; one brother David (Gay) Meinert of Decatur, AL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son Matthew Meinert.

Chris graduated from the University of Illinois with a bachelor’s degree and had worked in research at Argon National Laboratories in Joliet, IL. After moving back to Christopher he worked in sales at Taylor Motor Company in Benton and won numerous sales awards. He had a love for music and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was a member of the St Andrews Catholic Church in Christopher.

Funeral Mass for Chris will be on Saturday August 4, 2018 at 10 a.m. at the St Andrews Catholic Church in Christopher with Father Urban Osuji officiating.  Burial will be at St Andrews Catholic Cemetery in Christopher. Visitation will be on Friday August 3, 2018 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher.

In lieu of flowers donations can be given to the St. Francis Humane Society or to the Perry County Humane Society and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Linda Bradford-West Frankfort, IL (formerly of Christopher)

Linda Bradford, 66, of West Frankfort, formerly of Christopher, passed away on Sunday July 29, 2018.

She was born on November 2, 1951 in Christopher to Arzie Willard Brown and Cora Mae (Alexander) Wilson.  She married Richard Bradford Sr. on July 3, 1968 and he survives of West Frankfort. Survivors include her husband, two sons, Rich (Cindy) Bradford of Christopher and Bobby (Connie Hammons) Bradford of Calvert City, KY; grandchildren Ashley Bradford, Richie Bradford, Cheyenne Bradford and Haylee Bradford. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Gloria Bates, Mary Ann Brown and one brother Willard Brown.

She was a member of the Church of God in Benton and had attended the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church in Ledbetter, KY for the past ten years.

Maria “Bella” Sevilla Li — Marion, IL

Maria “Bella” Sevilla Li, age 74, of Marion, IL passed away peacefully with her family by her side at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 27, 2018 in Herrin Hospital of Herrin, IL.
She was born on Tuesday, April 4, 1944 in Cebu City, Philippines the daughter of Gaudioso and Matilde (Guanson) Remedio.
She grew up in a loving family with one brother and two sisters.
After graduating from Abiliana High School, she attended San Carlos University and San Jose Recoletes University both in Cebu and earned a Bachelor’s of Science in both Education and in Home Economics. It was in her first year in college she met Augustine Li, a faculty member of both schools.  Their relationship grew and four years later they were married on December 4, 1965 in Cebu City and together they shared over fifty-two happy years of marriage.
She taught English in Cebu City until 1974 when the family came to the US to perform missionary work at the Sioux Indian Mission in St. Francis, South Dakota.  Bella taught English and the Natural Sciences while Gus worked as a Health Services Coordinator between the Sioux Tribe and the government Health Agencies where they immensely enjoyed the people and the wild outdoors.  In 1997, the family moved to Minot, North Dakota where Dr. Li completed his post-graduate training in family practice.  After completing his education they moved to Mandan, North Dakota where Dr. Li opened his health clinic.  In 1984, the US Air Force made an offer: “Join the force and see the world for free.”
The family started moving again from Okinawa, Japan, the Philippines, Germany, South Korea and Guantanamo.  During these years Sevilla taught Dress Making, Macramé, Ceramics and Quilting.  While in Germany, she also took the job as director of a Child Development Center in Wiesbaden. Their last move was to Marion in 2004.
Bella and Gus take great pleasure in gardening and are both certified Master Gardeners by the University of Illinois Extension Program.
We welcome her to God’s garden and wish her happiness in the Lord’s Paradise.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion and was a member of the Marion Garden Club.  She was a great cook and was an avid fisherman. While in South Dakota she caught an 8 pound 3 ounce trophy Bass and a 14 pound Northern Pike.
She will be missed by all who knew and loved her and they will cherish their many happy memories.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Augustine F. “Gus” Li of Marion; two daughters, Theresa Shively and husband, Mark and Mary Jean Li all of Marion; two grandsons, Jeffrey Shively and his wife, Andrea and Erik Shively all of Marion; other extended family, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Democrito Remedio.

The visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at the funeral home.

Joan R. Wehmeyer – Thompsonville, IL

Joan R. Wehmeyer, 71, of Thompsonville, passed away 10:05 a.m., on Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at Herrin Hospital, surrounded by her family.

 She was born on December 21, 1946 to Eugene and Ann (Munis) Ryan in Chicago, IL. Joan retired as a Registered Nurse for Dr. P. Sahni.

Joan was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.  She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  Joan enjoyed traveling with her husband around the world, road trips with the Corvette Club, going to NHRA races, and reading.  She especially enjoyed participating in humanitarian trips to Thailand, distributing school supplies to children.

Joan is survived by her loving husband, Frank; two daughters, Michelle Manalang and husband Stuart Kahler of Marshfield, WI, and Karen Stark and husband Warren of Woodlawn, IL; four sons, Patrick Manalang of Marion, IL, Kevin Manalang and wife Erica of Woburn, MA, Frank Wehmeyer of Paducah, KY, and Aaron Wehmeyer of Odell, IL; twelve Grandchildren, Hayden Richardson, Landon Richardson,  Remington Kahler, Wednesday Manalang, Case Manalang, Cody Martin, Wyatt Martin, Dylan Wehmeyer, Sam Wehmeyer, Austin Stark, Taylor Stark, and Morrisa Stark.

She was preceded in death by father, Eugene Ryan, mother, Ann (Munis) Ryan, and sister, Mary Golem.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Pate Funeral Home, Benton, IL.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Scott Crosson – Peoria, IL (formerly of Marion, IL)

Scott Crosson, age 61, of Peoria, IL, formerly of Marion, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at 5:38 a.m. on Sunday, July 22, 2018, in Unity Methodist Hospital of Peoria.
He was born on Friday, September 14, 1956, in Los Angeles, CA, the son of Frank and Loretta (Morgan) Crosson.
Scott’s childhood years were spent in California before his family moved back to Marion in 1965.
He attended school in Marion and was a graduate of Marion High School Class of 1974. He continued on with his education by attending at John A. Logan College of Carterville, IL and later at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL.
With a degree in Business Finance, Scott was employed with several financial service companies during his career with his last being All State Insurance of Peoria.
He is survived by his parents, Frank and Loretta Crosson of Marion; wife, Vickie Crosson of Peoria; daughter, Amy Westcott and her husband Ryan of Vechy, MO; three sons, Michael, Andrew and Jonathan Crosson all of Peoria; grandson, Colt Westcott of Vechy, MO; two sisters, Jane Crosson and her husband Bruce Stroebe of Prior Lake, MN and Diana Kozar and her husband Joe of Union, KY; brother, Dan Crosson and his wife Teddi of Waipahu, HI; two nephews, Benjamin Kozar of Union, KY and Daniel Joseph Kozar and his wife Hanna of Cleveland, TN; two great nephews, James and Pepa Kozar both of Cleveland, TN, other extended family and many friends.

Eva M. (Gray) Fred – Benton, IL

Eva M. (Gray) Fred, 78, of Benton, IL passed away in peace Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at the Herrin Hospital with both of her daughters by her side holding both of her hands.

Eva was born on December 19, 1939 in Whittington, IL the daughter of Hamilton (Hammy) & Gertrude (Flach) Gray.

She worked as an LPN for over 50 years working at Franklin Hospital, several area nursing homes and 20 years at Big Muddy Correctional Center. She was a lifelong Cardinals Fan.

Eva is survived by her daughters, Linda Sanders, of Benton and Anna (Victor) Shockley, of Benton; grandchildren Stara (Nick) Rankin, of Wisconsin, Stephanie (James) Wilson, of Akin, Casey Sanders, of Johnston City, Ryan Sanders, of South Dakota, Daniel (Christy) Shockley, of Christopher, Jerett Shockley, of Benton, Nick Shockley, of Benton and Hunter Shockley, of Benton; great-grandchildren Madelyn, Clayton, Lukas, Jesa, Evan, Kade, Alex, Rylan and Giah and her fur baby, Peanut.

Mrs. Fred was preceded in death by her parents and by one daughter, Kim Renee Crider

Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton with Rev. Ron Cremeens officiating. Burial will be in the Shiloh Cemetery in Whittington. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

William Anthony “Tony” Armstrong – Marion, IL

William Anthony “Tony” Armstrong, age 76, of Marion, IL, passed away at 4:10 p.m. in Munich, Germany (9:10 a.m. central U.S. time) on Friday, July 13, 2018, where he and his wife, Sharon, were traveling in Europe.
Tony was born in Carbondale, Illinois on Friday, December 5, 1941, the son of William Stucker “Bill” and Elizabeth “Babe” (Feurer) Armstrong. In Marion, he was a member of the First Christian Church and attended school where he graduated from Marion High School in 1959. He continued his education at University of Illinois in Champaign, IL where he attained his JD degree in Law.
On completion of his education he returned to Marion. Tony and Attorney, J. C. Mitchell, formed the partnership of Mitchell and Armstrong Attorneys at Law and was a partner for many years. Later he established the law office of Armstrong and Green before his retirement in 2002.  He was well liked by his many friends and clients for his fairness and ability to solve problems and life situations.
His first marriage was to Mary (Willis) Armstrong, and the mother of his three daughters, Lisa, Christy and Gay. Later he was united in marriage to Sharon Ann (Fowler) Boyd on January 5, 1994 in Murphysboro, IL and together they shared over twenty-four years of marriage.
It was well known that Tony was a dedicated lawyer; in addition he found time for reading, crossword puzzles, gardening and his blended family. During retirement Tony and Sharon traveled for many years throughout the world. Their last tour included the Black Forest area of Germany, the home of his maternal grandparents.
He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon F. Armstrong of Carbondale; step-father Bracy Smith and wife of Marion, three daughters, Lisa Armstrong of Spring, TX, Christine Dice and husband, John of Atlanta, TX, and Gay Armstrong of Cedar Park, TX. five grandchildren, Rev. Travis Dice and wife, Shelby, Cody Dice, Madilyn, Braeden,  and Audra Jones; three stepdaughters, Beth Boyd of Grand Ledge, MI, Bridget Greene of Kernersville, NC, and Abby Woodward and husband, Steve, of Highpoint, NC; seven step-grandchildren, Zac and Kate Boyd, Jen Hershberger and husband, Troy, Jake Covington, Casey Greene, Josh , and Megan Woodward and step-great grandson Nolan Hersberger. In addition he will be missed by many extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Logan James McCann, age 10 months, of Marion, IL, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at 11:34 a.m. on Friday, July 20, 2018 at his home.
He was born on Monday, September 18, 2017 in St. Louis, MO, the son of Kyle Robert and Jacqueline Renee (Rich) McCann.

Wayne Rex Linck – Marion, IL

Wayne Rex Linck, age 83, of Marion, IL and formerly of Peoria, IL and Ft. Lauderdale, FL passed away peacefully at 9:10 p.m. on Thursday, July 19, 2018, in River to River of Marion.
Rex was born on Saturday, September 8, 1934, in Marion, IL, the son of Daniel and Altha May (White) Linck.
Rex grew up and attended school in Marion and was a graduate of Marion High School Class of 1952.
He answered the call of this nation by serving in the United States Army Communication Division and was honorably discharged August 4, 1962.
After returning from service he was employed as a Communication Technician with AT&T in Peoria and in 1974 he moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL where he continued with AT&T until his retirement in 2006.
Growing up in Marion, Rex was a member of Third Baptist Church.  He always loved his church family and was actively involved with Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. He enjoyed reading and studying about God’s creation. He was a private pilot and enjoyed riding bicycles and was also a self-taught piano player. His family always enjoyed spending time with him and on occasions hearing him play the piano.
He is survived by one brother, Bill Linck and his wife Ann of Marion; sister, Wilma Miriani of Herrin, IL; sister-in-law, Jeanette Linck of Spillertown, IL; five nieces, Karen Owens and her husband Kurby, of Tennessee, Kathy Lynn and her husband Rick, of Herrin, IL, Kedra Olsen and her husband Dirk, of Chicago, IL, Janis Meixsell and her husband Dennis, of Peoria, IL, and Carol Rendleman and her husband Terry of Marion; two nephews, Danny Linck of Phoenix, AZ and Patrick Linck of Marion, other extended family, and many friends.
Rex was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters-in-law, James and Betty Linck, J.D. and Helen Linck, and Leroy Linck; brother-in-law, Bill Miriani; niece, Kristine Tolson and one nephew, Michael Dan Linck.
