Ruth Imogene Rea — Dunlap, TN and formerly of Benton, IL

Ruth Imogene Rea, 99, of Dunlap TN, formerly of Benton IL, passed away Wednesday April 11, 2018 in Whitwell TN. 

Imogene was born in the Mt. Pleasant community in Franklin County IL August 31, 1918, the daughter of William Napoleon Payne and Libbie (King) Payne.  She married Dallas Palmer Rea September 7, 1940; he preceded her in death March 30, 2006. 

She is survived by her son Richard (Deidre) Rea of Dunlap TN; grandson Jesse (Caroline) Rea of Princeton KY; granddaughter Dr. Libby (Kirby) Ownby of Maryville TN; great-grandchildren Jacob, Ethan, Kaden and Emily Claire; a sister-in-law Mrs. Delton Glynn Rea Sr., of Griffin GA and many nieces and nephews. 

Imogene was preceded in death by her husband Dallas, her parents, brothers- and sisters-in-law William Arthur and Daphna Rea, John Wesley and Kathleen Rea and Delton Glynn Rea Sr.; sisters- and brothers in-law Enid Rowena (Rea) and A.C “Cook” Sanders and Cleona Ethel (Rea) and Carl George. 

A memorial service was held Saturday April 14, 11 a.m. at the Standefer-Reed Funeral Home in Dunlap TN with the family receiving guests 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday April 13th and 10 a.m.-11 a.m.  Interment will be Friday April 20, 11 a.m. in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Valier IL.  Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, Dunlap TN Building Fund.

Frances P. Wheat – Benton, IL

Frances P. Wheat, 94, of Benton, passed away at 6:07 p.m., on Thursday, April 12, 2018, at the Hitz Memorial Home, Alhambra, IL. 

She was born on March 18, 1924, to David and Ethel (Glube) Levy in Murphysboro, IL.  On July 18, 1944, she married James Elton Wheat, Jr. Frances retired as a Bookkeeper from Lampley Electronics.

Mrs. Wheat was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Benton, IL., the local Red Hat Society, Benton Garden Club, former Cub Scott and Girl Scout Leader and Lincoln School PTA President.  Loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She enjoyed gardening, floral arranging, and attending social gatherings with family and friends.

 Frances is survived by her three sons, Kenneth Wheat and wife Jan of Collinsville, IL, J. David Wheat and wife Carole of Hamilton, OH, Phillip Wheat and wife Patricia of Springfield, IL; one sister, Bernice Pollack and husband Don of Cinncinati, OH; six grandchildren, David Wheat and wife Megan of St. Jacob, IL,  Amy Wheat of Orlando, FL, Chris Wheat of Hamilton, OH, Mathew Wheat and wife Deanna of Charles City, IA, Geoff Wheat of Springfield, IL, Jessica Huff and husband Josh of Springfield, IL; nine great-grandchildren, Leah and Eric Wheat, Declan, Liam and Elise Wheat, Karleigh and Keagan Wheat, Rowen and Rosalind Huff; and one niece and three nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Ethel Levy; husband, James Elton Wheat, Jr., and a brother-in-law, Newton L. Wheat.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Pate Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., Benton, IL.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 23, 2018, at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park, Murphysboro, IL., with Rev. Lee Lovett officiating services.

Nicole Washington-Ocala, FL

 

Nicole Washington, 35, of Ocala FL passed away on Saturday April 7, 2018.

She was born on October 3, 1982 in Herrin, IL.  She married Reuben Washington and he survives of Ocala, FL.

Other survivors include her mother Kathy (Johnston) Esposito of Coello; father Ray Biggs of Christopher; her children Wardell Williams, Jayla Williams, Brittany Washington all of Coello and Zuri Swarthout-Yopp of North Carolina; one sister Chasity (Brandon) Shaffer of Christopher; grandfather Frank Moschino of Coello; nieces and nephews Savannah, Amber, Ashley, and Grant Shaffer; uncle Richard Johnston of New York; aunt Angela (Brent) Gossett of Coello.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother Betty Moschino, sister Ashley Biggs and aunt Lorie Johnston.

Funeral services will be on Saturday April 14, 2018 at Noon at the Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher with Rev. Daniel Ison officiating.  Visitation will be on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at Noon.  Burial will be at Mulkeytown Cemetery.

Claude A. Sullivan — Macedonia, Illinois

 

 

Claude Albert Sullivan, age 97, of Macedonia; passed away at 12:45 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2018 at the Hamilton Memorial Hospital of McLeansboro.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2018 in the Macedonia United Methodist Church, with Rev. Robert “Bud” Sefried officiating.  Burial, with Military Honors conducted by the Benton American Legion Post#280, V.F.W. Post#2671, and the Army National Guard of Marion, will be in the Macedonia Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to the funeral hour at 1:00 p.m. at the church.  Arrangements are with the Leffler Funeral Home of Benton.

Claude was born on November 18, 1920 in Macedonia, Illinois, the son of Arthur G. Sullivan and Naomi Florence (Weatherford) Sullivan.  He would marry the former Hazel McLarin, and she preceded him in death on January 10, 1993.

Mr. Sullivan proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, from July 23, 1942 through January 13, 1946, during World War II.  He was an MP serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Campaign. He received a bronze star from a battle in New Guinea.

Claude’s working career was as a truck driver for Vice’s Feed Mill.

He is survived by a brother Everett Ray Sullivan of Macedonia; a nephew Gary Sullivan of Johnston City, IL; two great nephews: Alan Sullivan and wife Sarah of Thompsonville, Christopher Sullivan and wife Tina of Pittsburg, IL; a great-great-nephew Aaron Sullivan; three great-great-nieces: Autumn, Abigail and Amelia Sullivan; and his lady friend Nina Johnson of McLeansboro.

Mr. Sullivan was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother and sister-in-law: Floyd and Mae Sullivan; and a niece Elloise Sullivan.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Macedonia Cemetery, and will be accepted at the church on Wednesday.

Phyllis L. McPherson — Benton, IL

Phyllis L. McPherson, 82, of Benton passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018 at the Herrin Hospital.

She was born in Logan, IL on March 14, 1936, the daughter of Johnie & Ethel (Denham) Smothers. She was married to Joe McPherson and he preceded her in death on September 28, 1993.

Mrs. McPherson was a Homemaker.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Kimberly Hickam, and husband Bruce of Cambria, IL, Richard McPherson, and wife Janet of Remington, VA and Gayla Peavey & husband Steve of West Frankfort; grandchildren, Marci Killeen and husband Kyle, of San Diego, CA, Amanda Hickam, of Johnston City, IL, Toni Marie Terry, and husband Bobby, of Murfreesboro, TN, Richard Joseph McPhereson, of Logan, IL, Samantha Jo Denmark, and husband Andreus, of Prattville, AL and Chloe Marie Peavey, of West Frankfort; great grandchildren Logan Michael and Maxwell; one sister, Dorothy L. Siddens, Cape Girardeau, MO; one niece, Lisa Lambert, of Cape Girardeau; one nephew, Stanley Wicks, and wife Debbie, of Cape Girardeau.

Mrs. McPherson was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, 1 Son-Mark A. Smothers and by 1 Brother-in-law-Charles “Dutch” Siddens.

Robert Martin Garrison, 95, of Benton, passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2018.

Elizabeth Annette Carter, 69, of West Frankfort, Illinois, passed away Tuesday April 3, 2018 in Franklin Hospital – Benton, Illinois at 8:05a.m.

Annette was born March 15, 1949 in Herrin, Illinois to Robert and Anna (Thomas) Melvin.

She was preceded in death by her son, Larry Scott Marvel and parents.

Annette is survived by her husband, Willie Carter; five sons: Steve (Angela) Marvel, Jeff Marvel, Josh (Sara) Marvel, Todd (Brook) Carter; and Matt Carter; brother, Chris (Gina) Melvin; sisters, Roberta (Mike) McLaren and Pat (Jim) Clark; grandchildren:  Adam, Andie, Macaibe, Stevey, Levi, Abbey, Evan, Sierra, and Lauren; great grandchild, Everly.

Mardell Fern “Ginger” Gingles — Benton, IL

Mardell Fern “Ginger” Gingles, age 83, of Benton; passed away Monday, April 2, 2018 at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2018 in the Leffler Funeral Home, with Rev. Steven Flach officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery of Benton. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Leffler Funeral Home.

Mardell Fern Gingles was born on May 13, 1934 in Summerfield, OK, the daughter of Jeff David Parks and Elsie (Dunn) Parks. She married Joseph Gingles, JR. on July 14, 1969, and he preceded her in death on February 26, 2011

Mrs. Gingles and her late husband formerly owned and operated Gingles 1 Bar in Glenview, IL, and Gingles 2 Bar in Christopher.

She enjoyed being a homemaker and taking care of her family. She liked eating out especially at Red Lobster and loved to watch old classic Western movies on television.

She and her late husband formerly attended the Faith Baptist Church of Benton.

Mrs. Gingles is survived by her daughter Jacqueline Rohr of Elk Grove, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter Karol Rohr; and a son Mark Rohr.

Nancy Bundy – West Frankfort, IL

Nancy Bundy, 80, of West Frankfort, Illinois, passed away Monday April 2, 2018 in her residence at 10:42a.m.

Nancy was born January 22, 1938 in West Frankfort, Illinois to Stanley and Lola (Shafer) Durst.  She loved her family especially her grandchildren.  Nancy was a member of First Christian Church – West Frankfort.  She also was a member of the Lion’s Club and Knight’s Shield. Nancy was a retired Denning Township supervisor.  She was a Kentucky Colonel.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Wendy Miner in 1979; parents; sisters, Jean Link and Donna Stone; special friends, Joanie Pugh and Kay Eader.

Nancy is survived by her son, George (Jean) Miner; grandchildren, Daniel Miner and Sarah (Brett) Bombick; great grandchildren, Matthew and Emily Miner.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00a.m. on Thursday April 5, 2018 at Union Funeral Home – West Frankfort, Illinois with Minister Brian Harris officiating.  Burial will be in Tower Heights Cemetery – West Frankfort, Illinois.  Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00a.m. prior to the service.

Florence “Ellinor” Williams, 95, of Sesser passed away on Friday March 30, 2018.

She was born on October 9, 1922 in Woodstock, IL to James and Anna (Darrow) Christopherson.

She is survived by her children Pamela (Harold) Kund of Riverside, CA, Nancy (Carroll) Kelly of Sesser, Ruth (Paul) Biggers of Springfield, Janet (John) Watson of Sesser, and Thomas (Donna) Williams of Decatur; grandchildren Greg (Kristin) Kund of Riverside, CA, Susan (Ron) Brown of Riverside, CA, Kristie (Wayne) Spotanski of Scheller, Andrew (Kelly) Kelly of Sesser, Mikah (Craig) Salonies of Wentzville, MO,  Deric (Trina) Brookman of St Louis, MO, Alice (Scott) Gray of Ellicott City, MD, John (Tina) St. Germain of Sunnyville, CA; great grandchildren Skylar Kund, Tobin Kund, Tyler Brown, Kiley Kelly, LaRaya Kelly, Landon Kelly, Karsen Salonies, and Will Salonies.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, six brothers and one great grandson Dylon Kelly.

She was a member of the Sesser First United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday April 4, 2018 at 1 p.m. at the Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home in Sesser with Pastor Allen Miller officiating.  Visitation will be on Wednesday April 4, 2018 from 12 noon until 1 p.m.  Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Sesser.
