Ida Louetta Mocaby – Logan, IL

Ida Louetta Mocaby, 83, of Logan, IL passed away Tuesday morning July 17, 2018 at her home.

She was born on August 4, 1934, the daughter of Robert and Alma (Bradley) Melvin. She was married to John Robert Mocaby, Sr. on September 30, 1951 and he died on February 23, 2014.

She worked for several years as a caregiver. Everyone that she took care of loved her.

She is survived by her children, John Mocaby, and wife Mary, Janet Brannan, Joy Smith, and husband Tom and Robin Mocaby, all of Logan; 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; five siblings, Helen Rose Kirk, Robert Gene Melvin, and wife Linda, Mary Kay Mosely, Anna Summers, and husband Leon and Carol Davis, and husband Denny.

Mrs. Mocaby was preceded in death by her parents, husband, by a daughter, Lynnette Camden, by a granddaughter, Jamie Bragg and by two brothers-in-law, Gene Kirk and Bill Mosley.

Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton with the Rev. Dean Severin officiating. Burial will be in the Logan Church of God Cemetery in Logan. Visitation will be after 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Arthur Carl (Dobb) Dobrzynski – Benton, IL

Arthur Carl (Dobb) Dobrzynski died on July 13, 2018, at St Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital, of cardiac complications.

Arthur was born November 24, 1943, in Detroit Michigan and moved to Benton at the age of four. He graduated from BCHS. After serving in the US Army for two years, he returned to Benton and joined the Benton Police Department.

On April 18, 1970, he married Patricia J, Laraway: the couple had recently celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary. In 1997, Arthur retired from the Benton Police Department after 28 plus years of service. After his retirement, Arthur went to work for eight years at Rend Lake Community College in law enforcement.

In July 2016, he joined the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department working in court security. Arthur was very proud of his 43 years in the law enforcement field.

Arthur is survived by his loving wife Patricia, of Benton, Il, and his uncle, Van Blaszczynski and family in California and first cousins Vera and Ray also in California. He is preceded in death by his mother, Francis Yezerski; his step-father, Leon Yezerski; his father, Arthur R. Dobrzynski; his grandmother and grandfather, Helen and Vincent Blaszczynski and his aunts and uncles. His sister-in-law, Susan Laraway, and his parents-in-law also preceded him in death.

He will be sadly missed by his family, the Laraway family and friends.

In accordance with Arthur’s wishes he has been cremated.
A memorial service to celebrate Arthur’s life is scheduled for Thursday, July 19 at 10 a.m. at Morton and Johnston Funeral Home on South Main in Benton, Il. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be sent to the Fraternal Order of Police or to a Charity of your choice.

Keith Poropat — Sesser, IL

Keith Poropat, 70, of Sesser passed away on Wednesday July 11, 2018.  He was born on August 20, 1947 in Chicago, IL to John and Frieda (Hart) Poropat.  He married Martha (Riggle) Poropat on November 16, 1995 and she survives of Sesser. 

Keith was a graduate of Rich East High School. He was employed by the Auto Mart in Mt. Vernon. He was a member of Central Christian Church in Mt. Vernon.

In addition to his wife Martha, he is survived by a granddaughter Samantha Logsdon of Sesser, a sister Winona Kay Baker of Waltonville, several nieces and nephews and his Pug, Leo.

Funeral services for Keith Poropat will be Saturday July 14, 2018 at 1 p.m. at the Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home in Sesser with Bro. Kirk Packer officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Sesser. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Mary Alice Mitchell-Valier

 

Mary Alice Mitchell, 83, of Valier passed away on Monday July 9, 2018.

She was born on August 24, 1934 in McLeansboro, IL to Bill and Violet (Moore) Holland.  She married Darrell Mitchell on February 10, 1996 and he survives of Valier.

Other survivors include her children Lee Wininger of Christopher, Robert Wininger of DuQuoin and June Hogan of Benton; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; four sisters Onis Marie Banks of Benton Harbor, MI and Inis Orr of Orlando, FL, Dottie Holland of Benton, IL and Loretta Williams of Plumfield.

Funeral services will be on Thursday July 12, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the West City Church of God with Pastor Harol Whitlock officiating.  Visitation will be on Wednesday July 11, 2018 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Gilbert Funeral Home and also on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. at the church.  Burial will be at Logan Church of God Cemetery.

Helen Marie Baser – Benton, IL

Helen Marie Baser, age 85, of Benton, IL,  passed away 5:01 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2018 at the SSM St. Joseph Hospital of St. Charles, MO.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at the Leffler Funeral Home of Benton, with Rev. Gary West officiating. Burial will be on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Leffler Funeral Home.

Helen was born on June 24, 1933, in McLeansboro, IL, the daughter of John Arthur Gould and Pearl Avis (Bennett) Gould. She was first married to Delmar Eaton, and he preceded her in death in 1975. She later married Hubert Baser and he preceded her in death in 2013.
Mrs. Baser worked in data entry with Emerson Electric.

She was a member of North Benton Missionary Baptist Church where she was a part of the Joy Group.

Helen enjoyed going out to eat, shopping, traveling and attending church.
Mrs. Baser is survived by her two sons: Robert Eaton and fiancée Mary of Winfield, MO, and John Delmar Eaton and wife Suzanne of Galatia, IL; five grandchildren: Jennifer Herbert, Bryan Eaton, Sarah Marie Eaton, Steven Michael Eaton, and Dakota Matthew Eaton; two step-grandchildren: Dalton Raney and Alyssa Raney; nine great-grandchildren: Steven Michael Eaton, Jr., Cheyenne Marie Eaton, Melanni Rose Eaton, Sophia Lynn Eaton, Brandon Clark, Lelea Herbert, Monty Herbert, Sydney Mae Eaton, and Sloan Matthew Eaton; one great-great-granddaughter Scarlett Clark; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Baser was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; and two brothers: Virgil Gould and William “Bill” Gould.

Terrie Lee (Robles) Nevarez-Allen – Mt. Vernon, IL

Terrie Lee (Robles) Nevarez-Allen, 55, of Mt. Vernon, IL, passed away on Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Evelyn’s Hospice House, Creve Coeur, MO.

She was born on June 30, 1963, to George and Brenda (Eckles) Robles in Chicago, IL. Terrie was a LPN for 25 years.

Terrie enjoyed fishing, traveling, snorkeling and caring for others as a nurse.

She is survived by her son, Jesse Nevarez and Kelsi Renn of McLeansboro, IL; one brother, George G. Robles, Jr. of Akin, IL; one sister, Tammy Heiman of Akin, IL; dear friends Melinda Potter and Billie Cox.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Cindy Robles; and step-father, John Heifner.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Pate Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., Benton, IL.

Visitation will be held Monday, July 9, 2018, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Pate Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at 10 a.m. at Pate Funeral Home, with Pastor Roger Webb, officiating.  Burial will follow services at Brady Cemetery, Akin, IL.

Richard “Dickie” Bartolotti – Valier, IL

Richard “Dickie” Bartolotti, 71, of Valier, IL passed away on July 4, 2018.

He was born on March 13, 1947 in Valier, to Libero and Delphine (Bissetti) Bartolotti.  He married Doris (Jones) Bartolotti on June 12, 1981 and she survives of Valier.

Other survivors include his children Jason (Paige) Ashmore of Sesser, IL and Mary (Eric) Millikan of Benton, IL; grandchildren Kaden Millikan, Levi Millikan and one grandchild expected in January 2019; three brothers Lee (Sheila) Bartolotti of Grimsland, NC, Gary (Kathy) Bartolotti of Christopher, and Robert (Jolene) Bartolotti of Coello.

He was a Vietnam veteran serving in the United States Marine Corps. and was a Silver Star and Purple Heart recipient.

He was a member of the UMWA, Franklin County Housing Authority Board, Christopher American Legion, Sesser VFW and a Life Member of the Disabled American Vets.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be on Sunday July 8, 2018 at 1:00 PM at the Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher with Brother Mark Miller officiating.  Visitation will be on Saturday July 7, 2018 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Sesser, IL.

Glenda Faye Kirkpatrick-Buckner, IL

Larry Wayne Stowers – Benton, IL

Larry Wayne Stowers, age 66, of Benton; passed away at 6:37 a.m. Sunday, July 1, 2018 at the SIH Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Larry was born December 3, 1951, the son of Daniel and Bertha Stowers.

He married Jane A. Roberts on August 28, 1970, and she survives.

Larry started as a paper carrier at the Benton Evening News at the age of 9. As the years went on he was also a janitor, worked in composition in the job shop, ran the press and printed papers. And when the paper sold the press, he was transferred to West Frankfort, working for American Publishing, in the press plant, printing newspapers, for a total of 40 plus years combined.
He teamed up with his son Danny, when Danny was 9 years old and together they delivered newspapers. Larry continued delivering newspapers and met a lot of customers and gave them the very best service possible. Father and son teamed up and bucked up and printed papers at the press plant.

Larry was saved at the age of 9, where his mom led him to the Lord. He attended Assemblies of God Church in Benton until the age of 16 when he met Jane and together they attended South Benton Missionary Baptist Church, where he joined and was baptized on February 4, 1974. Larry was called by God to serve as a Deacon, and was ordained on March 21, 1982. Larry loved the Lord and the Church.

Most have probably seen Larry mowing the church yard, and making it look immaculate for church services each Sunday. He would always say “that’s when me and the Lord talk”.

Larry is survived by his loving wife, of 47 years, Jane A. Stowers; a son Dan Stowers and fiancée Dawn; a daughter Misty Darnell and husband Anthony; nine grandchildren: Daniel Stowers and wife Laura of Herrin, Blake Stowers of Vienna, Brooke Jones and husband Garrett of Cape Girardeau, MO, Ethan Stowers of Benton, Abby Stowers of Dandridge, TN, Aren Wayne Darnell, Jayce Anthony Darnell, Dylan Stowers, and Cooper Daniel James Stowers; five great-grandchildren: Bella Stowers, Alex Stowers, Lily Stowers, Luke Stowers, Emma Stowers; and a great-grandson Landon Jones (due in October); two brothers: Dennis Stowers and wife Sandy of Alabama, David Stowers and wife Nancy of Benton; and several in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Eileen Bryan; and an infant brother.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 7, 2018 at the Leffler Funeral Home of Benton, with Cheryl Commean officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery of Benton. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Leffler Funeral Home.

Helen Mae Wayman – Benton, IL

Helen Mae Wayman, age 81, of Benton, passed away at 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 29, 2018 at the Stonebridge Nursing and Rehab Center of Benton.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2018 at the Leffler Funeral Home of Benton. Burial will be in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery of Benton.  Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Leffler Funeral Home.

Helen was born on November 7, 1936, in Benton, IL, the daughter of Jesse Rusher and Loretta (Lampley) Rusher. She married Jack Lee Wayman, and he preceded her in death.

Mrs. Wayman’s employment was as a self-employed housekeeper. Also, she and her late husband Jack formerly owned and operated the Dairy Cup in Christopher.

She was a member of the Undenominational Church where she enjoyed singing hymns.

Helen liked doing yardwork, loved to help people, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Helen is survived by her two sons: Garry Wayman and wife Becky of Benton, Gordon Wayman and wife Charlotte of Springfield, IL; five grandchildren: Amanda, Matthew, Jay, Carrie, and Aaron; six great-grandchildren; a brother Don Rusher and wife Wanda of Mineral Wells, TX; a brother-in-law Warren Fanta of LaGrange, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Wayman was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters: Jane Fanta and Mary Adams; a brother Jack Rusher; and a grandson Shawn Wayman.
