Betty DuHamel – Christopher

Betty Jean DuHamel, 92, of Christopher, IL,  passed away on Friday February 17, 2017 at 12:40 A.M. at her home.

Betty was born on February 17, 1925 in Cheyenne Valley, OK to Morris Samuel and Elsie Mae (Gould) Major. She married Gilbert Ronald DuHamel and he survives of Christopher.

Survivors include her children Paula Marie (David) Hall of Herrin, IL, and Billy Mark Perrin of Colorado.  Grandchildren Ryan, Matthew, Nicole, Nate, Michelle, and Mike and several great-grandchildren.  Two sisters Louise (Major) Clinesmith Wiggins of Oklahoma City, OK and Peggy Fettke of Fairview, OK.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son Richard Lynn Perrin, and one brother Bill Major.

Graveside services will be on Monday February 20, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Harrison Cemetery in Buckner with Rev. Jean Webster officiating.  Burial will be in Harrison Cemetery.

Frankie Skobel – Benton

thumbnail_Frankie SkobelFrankie Gene Skobel, age 78, of Benton IL, passed away at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Lavender Ridge in Mt. Vernon, IL.

Mr. Skobel was born on September 9, 1938 in Murphysboro, IL, the son of Frank Skobel and Cora (Rains) Skobel. He married the former Mary Margaret Stewart on September 19, 1959, and she preceded him in death on October 18, 2014.

Frankie Gene Skobel was a graduate of Gorham Mississippi Valley High School in Gorham, IL.

Frankie worked as a utility serviceman with SouthEastern Illinois Electric Cooperative. He was a member of the I.B.E.W. #702, Murphysboro Masonic Lodge #498 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite Masonic Bodies Valley of Southern Illinois, Ainad Shriners of Southern Illinois.

He was an avid hunter and sportsman, and especially enjoyed the shooting sports.

Mr. Skobel is survived by his four children: Frankie Skobel of Mt. Vernon, Anthony Skobel and wife Kathy of Benton, Angela Breckenridge of Old Monroe, MO, Cameron Skobel and wife Tina of St. Louis, MO; fifteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister Karen Weinstein and husband Rick of De Soto, IL; two sisters-in-law: Jo Anne Skobel of De Soto, IL, Carolyn Stewart of Loogootee, IN; two brothers-in-law: Donald R. Stewart of Jasper, IN, Terry L. Stewart of Otwell, IN; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a grandson Frankie Allan Minor, and a brother Wayne Skobel.

Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the Leffler Funeral Home of Benton, with Rev. Bert Mitchell officiating. A private family burial will be in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery of Benton. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association, and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Betty Jo Thomas – Benton

Betty Jo Thomas, age 84, of Benton IL, passed away at 11:05 p.m. Sunday, February 12, 2017 at the Stonebridge Senior Living Center of Benton.Betty Thomas

Betty Jo Thomas was born on January 4, 1933 in Benton, the daughter of Bert Reed and Ada (Snitchler) Reed. She married Jack L. Thomas, Sr. and he preceded her in death in 1998.

Mrs. Thomas worked as a cook at Kewpee Café, she would later work at Turco in Du Quoin, and most recently, until she retired, worked at Bennett’s Restaurant in Benton.

She is survived by her three children: Terry Thomas of Benton, Jack Thomas and wife Mary of Benton, Sabrina Marcelin of Langdon, ND; seven grandchildren: Sabrina Thomas, Jakcob Thomas, Brandy Souser, Josh Marcelin, Jason Thomas, Jeremy Thomas, Jessica Thomas; eleven great-grandchildren: Dillon Bishop, Alexus Bishop, Anthony Thomas, Rachel Thomas, Madison Thomas, Laney Thomas, Payton Thomas, Ronin Souser, Aven Souser, Lexi Marcelin, Bailey Marcelin; and three nephews David Trusty, Tim Lampley, Tom Lampley, and a cousin Jamie Auten.

Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son Keith Thomas, a brother Carl Reed, and a sister Shirley Trusty.

Mrs. Thomas’ wishes were to be cremated.

Graveside services will be held at a future date.

Arrangements are through the Leffler Funeral Home of Benton.

Elvon Zook – Buckner

Elvon Preston “Captain Action” Zook, 90, of Buckner, IL, passed away at 9:55 a.m. on Tuesday,  February 14, 2017, at his home.

He was born on October 18, 1926, to William and Parisea (Lathum) Zook in East Prairie, MO.  Elvon was a self employed brick layer.

Elvon was a veteran of the United States Army and was a member of the Italian Club in Coello.

Robert Sieveking, Jr. – Benton

Robert William Sieveking, Jr., 75, of Benton, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2017, at the Benton Rehabilitation and Care Center.

Bob Siveking, Jr.He was born on November 10, 1941, to Robert  and Elenaor (Marie) Sieveking in Chicago, IL. Robert retired as an Auto Mechanic. On November 7, 1970, he married the former Carol Basham and she survives.

He was a member of Knights of Columbus, V.F.W. and American Legion and a former member of Civil Air Patrol.  Robert and his wife Carol took to heart the care of children and opened their home as foster parents for the past 49 years.

Linda Eubanks – Benton

Linda EubanksLinda “Nana” Eubanks, 78, of Benton IL, passed away at 8:55 p.m., on Sunday, February 12, 2017, at Herrin Hospital surrounded by her family.

She was born on July 5, 1938, to Thurl and Wanda (Horrell) Mason in West Frankfort, IL. On July, 10, 1955, she married Don “Frog” Eubanks and preceded her in death.

Linda was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren, playing crossword puzzles and doing jigsaw puzzles.

Linda is survived by her children, Debbie Clay, Ronald Eubanks, and Sue Eubanks; grandchildren, Carmen Mifflin, Nicole Eubanks; Alan Clay, Ryan Eubanks, and Daniel  Eubanks; and great-grandchildren, Aubrey Rash, Briella Clay, Izabella Mifflin and Colton Mifflin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thurl “Spud” and Wanda Mason; husband, Don “Frog” Eubanks; son, Douglas Eubanks; and grandson, David Clay.

Sue Groves – Benton, IL

Sue Groves, 70, of Benton, IL, passed away Tuesday afternoon, February 7, 2017 at SSM Health Good Samaritan, in Mt. Vernon, IL.

She was born in Franklin County, IL on August 20, 1946, the daughter of George and Julia (Mayberry) Groves.

She was a dietician at Helia Health Care and a school bus driver for Benton Grade School.

Sue is survived by four children, Scott Fisher, of Johnston City, IL, Jamie Williams, and wife Bonnie,  of Daytona Beach, FL, Julia Cavins, and husband Calvin, of Benton and Chad Williams, of Thompsonville, IL; six grandchildren Cyle, Caleb, Allek, James, Brooklyn and Henry; three great-grandchildren, Hunter, Jasey and Spencer; brothers and sisters Oscar Groves, California, Guy Groves, Benton, Betty Emerson, of Wyoming and Goergia Ann Burns, of Princeton, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Dub Groves and Harvey Groves and by a sister, Vergie Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton, with Pastor John Neace officiating. Burial will be in the Kirk Cemetery, in Ina, IL. Visitation will on Saturday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Morton & Johnston Funeral Home.

William E. Lampley, Sr. – Benton

William LampleyWilliam Edward Lampley, Sr., age 90, of Benton IL, passed away at 6:50 a.m. Sunday, February 5, 2017 at Fifth Seasons Residential in Benton.

Mr. Lampley was born on October 22, 1926 in Franklin County, the son of Logan Lampley and Pauline (Hobbs) Lampley. He married the former Hazel Margaret Brooks on June 27, 1943 and together they celebrated 73 years of marriage.

Mr. Lampley was the founder of Lampley Oil Company. He built the Plaza Restaurant and Lounge, West City Motors, and Lampley Oil Office building. He was also the former owner of the Plaza Motel.

His passion was working, and enjoying family and friends.

He was a member of the Macedonia Masonic Lodge #1128 A.F. & A.M., the Ainad Shriners of Southern Illinois, and was a member of the Illinois Oil and Gas Association.

Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Hazel M. Lampley of Benton; four children: Cheryl K. Lampley of Phoenix, AZ, Billie S. Higgerson of Benton, William E. Lampley and wife Michele of Benton, Steven C. Lampley and wife Daredan of Marion, IL; seven grandchildren: Christopher J. Fiorenzi of Texas, Jacquelyn Higgerson of Benton, Shannon Melvin and husband Rodney of Benton, Trent Higgerson and wife Becky of Mahomet, IL, James Lampley of Benton, Mark Lampley of Benton, Casey C. Lampley of West Frankfort; ten great-grandchildren: Taylor Fiorenzi, Brock Britton, Mallory Melvin, Jace Melvin, Paxton Melvin, Liam Higgerson, Yorke Higgerson, Logan Lampley, Olivia Lampley, and Luke Lampley.

Mr. Lampley was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Kathy Ruth Lampley; a granddaughter: Cynthia Fiorenzi; a brother: John Lampley; a son-in-law: Gerald Higgerson; and a granddaughter-in-law: Tiffany Lampley.

Marilyn was a member of  the Grace Awakening Community Church. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, and spending time with family and friends.

Marilyn is survived by her son, Shannon Lux; two brothers, Jack  Baldwin and Jerry Baldwin; twin sister, Carolyn (Jim) Steckenrider; eight nieces and nephews; Michael Baldwin, Penny Hofstetter, Felicia Belgard, Jeff Wiggs, Amie Keck, Jill Lampley, Jami Dial, and Sarah Sullivan; and several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carlos and Madge Baldwin, one brother, Curtis “Curt” Baldwin, an infant sister, Patsy Ruth Baldwin, sister-in-law, Peggy  Baldwin, nephew, Patrick Baldwin

Cindy Mattison – Benton

Cynthia “Cindy”  Dawn Morgan-Mattison, 48, of Benton, passed away at 8:15 a.m., Sunday,  January 22, 2017, at her residence surrounded by her family.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Benton. Cindy enjoyed working with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. She also enjoyed crafts, crocheting and being outdoors.
Cindy  is survived by her loving spouse Richard, her mother and step-father, Virgie Nadine and Doug Stellmon, step-mother, Carol Morgan; one son, Daniel Sean Mattison; two daughters, Sherry Lynette Mattison and Bethany Joy Mattison; one grandson, Joseph Lee; three granddaughters, Keaira Marie, Mary Darlene, Norah Grace; two sisters, Kimberly Nadine Gallamore and Beverly Elaine Morgan; two brothers, James Anthony Morgan and  Kenneth Vance Morgan and her special pet dog, Joe Joe.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Vance Morgan.
