Julia Williams-Sesser

Julia Williams, 69, of Sesser IL,  passed away on Thursday June 22, 2017 at her home.

She was born on September 25, 1947 in Greenville, KY, to Lee Roy and Stella (Evans) Kirtley.  She married Dan Williams and he preceded her in death on April 22, 2007.

She is survived by two daughters Amy Lynn and Andy Julian of Olney and Jody Williams of Sesser; two grandchildren Gracie Julian and Brooks Julian; three sisters Nancy and Bob Geppert of Highland, Sara and Bob Martin of St Louis, MO, and Martha and Joe Minniti of Lisle, IL; one brother David and Melissa Kirtley of St Louis, MO, also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one sister Mary Kirtley.

Funeral service will be on Sunday June 25, 2017 at 1:30 PM at the Jesus Center in Sesser (First Christian Church) with Rev. Kirk Packer officiating.  Visitation will be on Saturday June 24, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home in Sesser.  Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Sesser.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Southern Illinois Christian Service Camp in West Frankfort, IL or to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Karol Jackson – Marion, formerly of Mukeytown

Karol Jackson, 73, of Marion formerly of Mulkeytown, passed away on Sunday June 18, 2017 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.

She was born on April 19, 1944 in Long Island, NY to Walter and Francis (Skowronski) Gapsiewicz. She married Norman Jackson and he survives of Marion.

Survivors include her husband, children Dawn and Bruce Breeden of Carterville, Tricia Lopez of Mission, TX, Andrea and Bill Creek of Springfield; grandchildren Aurora Breeden, Cooper Breeden, Alejandro Lopez, Adrian Lopez, Ericka Creek, and Jordan Creek; one brother Wayne and Nancy Gapsiewicz of McAllen, TX.

She was a teacher at Zeigler-Royalton School for many years and was a member of the Mulkeytown Christian Church.

Her wishes were to be cremated with no services.

Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher is handling arrangements.

Marlene Mary Ort – Sesser

Marlene Mary Ort, 80, of Sesser, passed away on Thursday June 15, 2017 at her home.

She was born on July 6, 1936 in Cincinnati, OH to Ralph and Martha (Yauch) Roether.

Survivors include her children Michael Ort of North Carolina, Pamela and Armondo Camarillo of Sesser, Terri Quillman of Mt Vernon, Rosemary and Terry Willis of Sesser, George and Maria Ort of Sesser, Cheryl Ort of Sesser, and Beverly and Michael Wefels of Benton; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; five brothers and sisters.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one son David Ort.

Visitation will be on Monday June 19, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home in Sesser.

Carter Paul Lingle – Benton

Carter Paul Lingle, age 16, of Benton, passed away at 6:37 p.m. Sunday, June 11, 2017 at the Franklin Hospital of Benton.

Carter Paul Lingle was born on October 3, 2000, the son of David Paul Lingle and Kimberly Ann (Kretzer) Lingle.

Carter was a Junior at BCHS. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing X-Box, doing yard work and orchard work with his Grandpa Lingle, helping other people, and also enjoyed taking care of the livestock with his Grandpa Kretzer.

He was a member of Resurrection Church in Benton, and also attended Rescue Free Will Baptist Church near Whittington.

Carter is survived by his loving parents David Paul Lingle and Kimberly Ann Lingle, of Benton; his loving brother Andrew David Lingle, his loving twin brother Casey Robert Lingle, his loving sister Emilee Grace-Marie Lingle, all of Benton; his grandparents: Paul and Catherine Lingle of Whittington, Patricia Johns of Sesser, Charles and Dawna Kretzer, of Long Lane, MO, and Barry Johns of Sesser; an uncle John Lingle and wife Sherry and their family of Sesser; two aunts: Susan Shelton and husband Ralph Edward and their family of Ewing, Jeniffer McDowell and husband Dennis and their family of Long Lane, MO.

He was preceded in death by both his paternal and maternal great-grandparents.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2017 at the Leffler Funeral Home of Benton, with Revs. Bryant Harris and Charles Kretzer officiating. Burial will be in the Elder S.M. Williams Cemetery in Ewing. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Ramona Anderson – Christopher

Ramona Anderson, 77, of Christopher, IL, passed away at 7:30 a.m., on  June 12, 2017, at the Franklin Hospital ER.  

She was born on April 12, 1940, to Valley and Alma (Smith) Davis in Benton, IL.She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Ramona was a loving wife, partner, homemaker, and grandmother. She enjoyed arranging flowers and was active with the youth and senior groups at church. Ramona was proud of her grandchildren, following them in sports, band, and other activities. She found great joy in helping others, and would put others before herself. Ramona had a large heart and lived love. 

Ramona is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Walter Bruce Anderson, two sons, David B. (Jackie Renee) Anderson of Thompsonville, IL, and Scott (Chris) Anderson of Rochester, IL;  three daughters, Sheryl L. (Mark) Hall of Benton, IL, Michele K. (Jeff) Stoffel of Benton, IL, Christina L. (Larry) Scott of Herrin, IL; four grandsons, David I. (Sarah)Anderson of Mulkeytown, IL, Daniel E. (Amanda) Anderson of Benton, IL, Brandon (Tabitha) Hall of Benton, IL, Justin West of Benton, IL; three granddaughters, Audra (Matt) Wolfe of DuQuoin, IL, Autumn Harris of West Frankfort, IL, Kendreona J. Buchanan of Herrin, IL; and seven great-grandchildren. 

 She was preceded in death by her parents, Valley and Alma Davis, and  brother, Junior Davis.

 Services are entrusted to Pate Funeral Home, 301 S. Main Street, Benton, IL. 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2017, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Pate Funeral Home, Benton, IL.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 16, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Eddie Paul Davis and the Rev. Samuel Simmons officiating.

Burial will follow services at the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery, Benton, IL.

Linda Sue (Petro) Mandrell

Linda Sue (Petro) Mandrell, 74, of Sesser passed away on Sunday June 11, 2017 at her home.

She was born on September 13, 1942 in Sesser to Harold and Josephine (Zwosky) Goessman.

She married John Petro Jr. on October 25, 1959 and he preceded her in death on April 18, 2004. She later married Gordon Mandrell on February 14, 2014 and he survives of Sesser.

Survivors include her children John Patrick and Stephanie Petro of Sesser, Kelly Dean and Cathy Petro of Sesser, Mark Allen and Gena Petro of Sesser, Patricia Jo and Bart Swisher of Sesser; grandchildren Amie and Brian Nitz, Joshua Petro, Jessica Petro and fiancée Trevor Joiner, Ryan and Adrea Petro, Paige and Alex Owens, Logan Petro, Danielle and Brett Crocker, Andrew Swisher; 6 great grandchildren  Brooklynn, Zoie, Brody, Collin, Emerysn, Libby; one brother Harold Dean and Margaret Goessman of Sesser; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jerry and Margie Petro of Woodbury, TN.

Funeral Services will be on Wednesday June 14, 2017 at 7:00 PM at the Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home in Sesser.  Visitation will be on Wednesday June 14, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.  Private burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery at a later date.

Marsha Stock – Benton

Marsha A. (Smith) Stock, 67, of Benton passed away Tuesday morning, June 6, 2017 at her home. She was born in Christopher, IL on July 9, 1949, the daughter of Edward & Tressa (Garavaglia) Smith.

Marsha married David M. Stock on November 24, 1973 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Benton.

She was a caring, loving person who held her family together. She was very active in St. Joseph Church. Marsha was proud of her work as a nurse anesthetist, and loved being with her co-workers. She enjoyed her retirement by spending time with her family. Especially her grandson Henry and her cocker spaniels.

Mrs. Stock is survived by her husband David M. Stock of Benton, her three children;   Erin Elizabeth Stock of Herrin,   Adam Todd Stock of Benton, and  Ryan Timothy Stock and wife Heather of Marion; and grandson, Henry Alexander.

Mrs. Stock was preceded in death by her Parents.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, June 9th at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Benton with Father Urban Osuji officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic & Oddfellows Cemetery in Benton. Visitation begins at 9:00 A.M. Friday at the Church, Mass to follow.

Carl Andrews- Benton

Carl Andrews, age 83, of Benton, passed away at Herrin Hospital on Saturday, May 27th, 2017 

Carl, a Baptist by faith, was born in Benton on November 8, 1933, the son of the late Leo and Rose Andrews.

He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Jennifer Andrews of Eldorado; two grandsons and their wives, Aaron and Natalie Andrews of Haubstadt, In. and Jonny and Katie Andrews of Newburgh, In; two great-grandsons, Kayden Cole (Aaron & Natalie), Porter Thomas (Jonny & Katie) and one great-granddaughter Kylee Jo (Aaron & Natalie) and brother-in-law, Herbert Burrell of St. Louis and Sister-in-law, Dixie Andrews of Benton.

Carl spent 43 years managing the F.S. grain elevator in Benton, first for Franklin Grain & Supply and then in the later years for Twin County Service Company.  Besides his work at the elevator he, along with his brother Henry and son Dennis, had a small farming operation south of Benton.  After winding down the farming operation in 2002 he found a new passion in competitive shooting and could be found as often as possible at the Rend Lake Shooting Complex shooting trap, skeet or his favorite sporting clays.

He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by his wife Betty and brother Henry Andrews.

Visitation is from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Morton & Johnston Funeral Home on Friday, June 9th with a memorial service conducted by Robert Jilek immediately following.  In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to The Southern Illinois Youth Sport Shooting Association (SIYSSA) C/O Larry Chinski, 2006 N Woods Place, Mt. Sharon Lund – Herrin

Sharon Louise Lund, 74, of Herrin IL, passed away on Sunday June 4, 2017 at the Herrin Hospital.

She was born on June 18, 1942 in Christopher to Dewey and Geraldine (Hart) Kramer.

She is survived by two granddaughters Ashley Walker and Sidney Walker both of Marion; one sister Vickie McDonald of West Frankfort; two nephews Guy Peters and Greg Peters both of West Frankfort.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son Raymond Keith Walker, one granddaughter Jackie Walker, and two brothers Paul “Butch” Kramer and Richard Kramer.

Dale Marshall – Mt. Vernon

DALE R. MARSHALL, 67, of Mt. Vernon IL,  passed away Sunday, June 04, 2017 at White Oak Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon.

He was born in Ewing, IL on Nov. 10, 1949, the son of Howard & Patty Sue (Batts) Marshall.

He married Candace A. (Switzer) in Benton, IL on Oct. 15, 1977.

He had formerly worked as a CNA and a Private setter. Dale was employed at IGA in Benton for 15 years. He was a member of the Logan Street Baptist Church, and an Associate member of the First United Methodist Church.

Mr. Marshall is survived by his wife, Candace A. Marshall of Mt. Vernon; brother Billy Marshall and wife Ginger of Ewing; two nephews, Loren D. Marshall and Kevin A. Marshall; great nephew Matthew; three great nieces; Katie, Deanna, and Samantha; and sister in law Nancy Harper and husband Curtis of Benton, KY.

Mr. Marshall was preceded in death by his Parents, by a Sister-in-law: Jean Marshall, and by a Great Nephew: Ryan Lee Russell.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 7 at Johnston Funeral Home in Ina with Rev. Roger Marshall officiating. Burial will be in Kirk Cemetery in Ina. Visitation will be after 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
