Ramona Grammer Tasky – Benton, IL

BENTON — Ramona June Grammer Tasky, died peacefully early Wednesday morning at Benton Rehabilitative and Health Care Center.

Born Aug. 13, 1930, she was the oldest daughter of 13 children born to Archie Sinclair Grammer and Stella Bradford Grammer.

Ramona is preceeded in death by her parents; fourth husband, Edmond Tasky; brothers, Bill, John, Lonnie, Archie, Don, Charles and Carl; sister-in-law, Ruth Burzynski (Bill) Grammer; and stepsons, Eddie Gene and Andy Tasky.

She is survived by three sisters, Ruby Talley, Caroline (Curtis) Williams, both of Benton, and Sharon (Stan) Moser of Wisconsin; sisters-in-law, Verla (Lonnie) Grammer and Cathy (Don) Grammer of Mississippi; brothers, Carroll and Darrell (Judy) of Kentucky; and children, Cheryl Jan (Bruce) Hartsell, David and Chuck Hutson; stepdaughter, Brenda Tasky Schwartz; 10 grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and several great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and friends.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 17, in Morton and Johnston Funeral Home in Benton. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Louise Marie Latham – Buckner, IL

BUCKNER — Louise Marie Latham, 66, died at 4:34 p.m. Monday, June 13, 2016, in Herrin Hospital.

Louise was born Jan. 27, 1950, in Ottawa, to Robert David and Maybell Louise (Huston) Shelton.

She married George Latham on Feb. 11, 1995, and he survives in Buckner.

Survivors include children, Tammy Miller of Buckner, Eric and April Barnhart of Oglesby, Jody Barnhart of Taylorville, and Roy Dale Barnhart Jr. of Ottawa; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; brother, James and Vickie of Shelton of Oakdale, Tennessee; and one sister-in-law, Carol Shelton of Wisconsin.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, David Shelton and Tom Shelton.

She was a member of Valier First Baptist Church.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 17, in Valier First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Harl Ray Lewis officiating.

Georgianna Miller – Benton, IL

Georgianna Miller, age 86 of Benton, passed away May 29, 2016 in Hendersonville, TN.

Her wishes were to be cremated.

A Memorial Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2016 at the First Free Will Baptist Church , 1208 East Bond Street, Benton, Illinois, with Rev. Kent Dunford and Rev. Larry Clyatt officiating.  Friends may greet and give condolences to the family from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday, June 18, 2016 at the First Free Will Baptist Church of Benton.

Georgianna was born on January 1, 1930 in Mc Leansboro, IL, the daughter of Walter and Maud (Mezo) Stover. She married Charles E. “Chuck” Miller and he preceded her in death on.

During her working career, Georgianna was a registered nurse.

She was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Benton.

Mrs. Miller is survived by her daughter Gayle Kucera and husband John of Gallatin, TN;  a son Gary A. Miller of Eldorado, IL; a grandson Thomas Kucera of Franklin, TN;  a brother David Stover of Mc Leansboro, IL; several nieces and nephews, and her many friends and neighbors at Lake Moses.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a sister Sue Rountree; and a brother Danny Stover.

Deborah “Debbie” Ann Dial – Benton, IL

James Edward Sullivan – Thompsonville, IL

THOMPSONVILLE — James Edward Sullivan, 93, of the Thompsonville area passed away at home with family by his side. He went to join the Lord at 1 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2016.

He was born April 15, 1923, in southwestern Hamilton County to Earl and Esta (Foster) Sullivan.

He married Dorothy Auten on Sept. 14, 1942, in Cape Girardeau. She preceded him in death Sept. 19, 1984.

Edward is survived by a daughter, Brenda Smith and husband, Billy, of West Frankfort; a son, Roger Sullivan and wife, Brenda, of Thompsonville; a son-in-law, Gale Pearce of Ewing; eight grandchildren, Daron Pearce and wife, Debbie of Ewing, Vanessa Burgess of Ewing, Kevin Smith and wife, Kendell, of Thompsonville, Kenny Smith and wife, Denise, of Thompsonville, Kimberly Rains and husband, Matt, of West Frankfort, John Sullivan and wife, Shasta of Norris City, Donny Sullivan and wife, Melissa, of Norris City, and Sheila Smith and husband, Aaron, of Lakeland, Florida; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Edna Dunford Sitter of San Antonio, Texas, and Ruth Head of Benton; a sister-in-law, June Sullivan of Thompsonville; and many nieces and nephews.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; a daughter, Judy Pearce; a brother, Vernon Sullivan; and a granddaughter, Lisa Michelle Pearce.

Edward proudly served his country in World War II in the South China Sea and South Pacific Islands. He served under General Douglas McArthur. He was very proud of his service to his country.

He was saved at an early age and was a member and deacon at Second Baptist Church of Thompsonville.

He was a member of the James Dunford American Legion Post of Thompsonville.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, in Morton and Johnston Funeral Home in Benton, with Pastor John Robinson and Larry Miller officiating. Burial with military rites conducted by the Thompsonville American Legion Post will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Thompsonville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Donald Atkins – Benton, IL

BENTON — Donald Atkins, 85, passed away at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 9, 2016, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon.

Donald was born Nov. 12, 1930, in Waltonville, the son of Thomas M. and Fern (Isom) Atkins.

He married Ruth Ann Hurst on July 2, 1954, in Benton, and she survives.

Mr. Atkins was a Korean War Veteran. He was a Staff SGT in the Air Force. He was a retired postal employee. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman and gardener.

Donald is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann Atkins of Benton; two children, Mark Alan Atkins of Benton and his fiancée, Tammy Milam, Mary Annet (Atkins) Lofton and husband, Perry, of Sharpe, Kentucky; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Rice and husband, Jeremy, of Huntsville, Alabama, Jeremy Miller and wife, Jessica of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Nicole Lofton, and Valerie Miller, both of Nashville, Tennessee, Megan Warder and husband, Dustin, of Owensboro, Kentucky, Neil Atkins and wife, Lindsey, of Harrisburg, Zac Atkins and wife, Chalet, of Harrisburg, and Holly Wilburn and husband, Nate, of West Frankfort; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Tom Atkins and wife, Rosemary, of Mount Vernon; one sister, June Hamlin of Waltonville; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Atkins was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lowell Atkins and Bobby Gene Atkins; and two sisters, Ila Newell and Ethel Marie Hall.

Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 12, in Immanuel Baptist Church in Benton, with Dr. Sammy Simmons officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Franklin Cemetery in Whittington. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Charles “Charlie” Bailey – Christopher, IL

CHRISTOPHER — Charles “Charlie” M. Bailey, 75, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at his home.

Charlie was born at home Dec. 4, 1940, in an area of Christopher known as “Hodgetown,” the son of Gale and Faye (Hammonds) Bailey.

He married the love of his life, Nancy (Flatt) Bailey, on Sept. 7, 1963, and together they shared almost 53 years of marriage.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy; two sons, Stephen Bailey of Benton, and Craig Bailey of Christopher; four grandchildren, Joey, Kortnie, Gunner and Tanner; and the first great-grandchild is expected in September.

He is also survived by his sister, Brenda Hale and her husband, Ralph; nieces, Christie Arondelli and Cheryl Cali, and their families; as well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother-in-law, O.D. Flatt.

Charlie was a lifelong coal miner, first working at Old Ben 9 and then Old Ben 24, and ending his mining career at Arch of Illinois. He and Nancy had a mutual love of hunting and fishing and did so throughout their life together. He also loved their special pets Bear and Bosco, who brought him much love and comfort.

Funeral services for Charlie will be at noon Saturday, June 11, in Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher, with Brother Bob Furlow officiating. Burial will be in Hammonds Cemetery in Buckner. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the funeral home.

William Monaghan – Royalton, IL

ROYALTON — William Luther Monaghan, was stillborn at 1:22 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2016, in Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.

Survivors include his father, Nathan Monaghan; mother, Stephanie Nichole Feldscher of Royalton; sisters, Emily Pineda and Layla Monaghan; grandparents, Victoria and Kurtis Griffith of Royalton, Michael Feldscher of Thebes, and Lisa and Keith Stewart of Royalton; surviving great-grandmother, Edith Meadows of Royalton; and several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 6, in Smith Cemetery in Buckner, with Pastor Russell Wycoff officiating. Burial will be in Smith Cemetery in Buckner.

Pat Mabry – Belleville, IL (formerly of Benton)

Pat Mabry, 84, of Belleville, IL and formerly of Benton, IL passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2016 in Columbia, IL.

She was born in Benton, IL on May 24, 1932, the daughter of Hobart Ransom Williams and Ersie Estelle Bray West.

Mrs. Mabry was of the Pentecostal faith.

She married Calvin L. Mabry on May 30, 1949, and he survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Pam Tullous, of St. George Island, FL and Lynette Rienholt and husband David, of Millstadt, IL; grandchildren Zac Rienholt, of Columbia, Jennifer Zander and husband Sande, of Westminster, CO, Benjamin Parish and wife Chelly, of Henderson, NV, Dustin Parish and fiance Kelly Givens, of Westminster, CO and Michael Parish, of Austin, TX; one great-granddaughter Dierdre Zander; one sister Betty Bowman and husband Spank, of Benton; one niece and one nephew.

Mrs. Mabry was preceded in death by her parents and by a son-in-law Charlie Tullous.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 3 at the Masonic & Oddfellows Cemetery in Benton. There will be no visitation and those attending the service are requested to meet at the cemetery.

Ruth Marcella Swisher – formerly of Mulkeytown, IL

Ruth Marcella Swisher, 91, of Benton, IL and formerly of Mulkeytown, IL, passed away June 1, 2016 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, IL.

Ruth was born December 6, 1924 in West Frankfort, IL, the daughter of Charley Young and Hazel (Imhoff) Young.

She is survived by her children, Bonnie Hanks, Johnston City, IL, Bob and Melody Swisher, Mulkeytown and Gary Swisher, West Frankfort; grandchildren Randy and Kristi Meadows, Tami and Rob Austin, Bill Meadows, Lori and Kelly Robertson, Robin and Lance Tullis, Rodney Mandrell and John David Barra; great-grandchildren Hunter Kerley, Matthew Robertson, Morgan Robertson, Bobbi Jo Mandrell, Madyson Meadows, Connor Meadows; one sister Betty Crutcher, Robinson, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Ruth worked as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant (CNA).

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Gilbert Funeral Home, in Christopher with the Rev. Eddie Paul Davis officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday, June 4, 2016 from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, in Mulkeytown.
