THOMPSONVILLE — Jimmie Buchanan, 68, died Friday morning, March 25, 2016, in Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 1, 2-16 in First Baptist Church in West Frankfort. Burial will be in Phillips Cemetery near Ewing. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.

Glenna Jean (Brown) Roberson – Sesser, IL

SESSER — Glenna Jean (Brown) Roberson passed away at 12:05 p.m. on Monday, March 21, 2016 at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville, IN.
glennaGlenna was born September 1, 1943, in Christopher, the daughter of Andrew Earl and Clara Aline (Crocker) Brown.  Her siblings were Ruth Ann McGlasson, Sesser, David Brown and wife Sharon, of Creston, IL, and Joyce Gunter, who also resided in Sesser.
Glenna graduated from Goode-Barren Township High School in the Class of 1961.  She worked at the Sesser, Illinois post office for 26 years until her retirement in 2004.
Glenna was united in marriage to Ronald Ray Roberson, the son of Clyde and Helen (Sledge) Roberson on June 1, 1963, in Sesser.  They had two sons, Randy Roberson of Scheller, IL and Rick Roberson of Effingham, IL.
Glenna was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sesser for many years.
Glenna had volunteered for the Sesser Homecoming Association for many years in which she assisted with the Queen, Prince, and Princess nominations and awards.   She also was involved for several years in the Sesser Junior Woman’s Club and the Goode-Barren Historical-Genealogical Society.  Glenna’s hobbies included collecting pink depression glass and Barbie dolls.  Her favorite color was purple and collected almost anything that was purple.
Glenna is survived by her loving husband and two sons.  She is also survived by her loving mother Clara, sister Ruth Ann, brother David, one brother-in-law Rodney Roberson of Waltonville, IL; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews, aunts and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father Earl, father-in-law Clyde, mother-in-law Helen, sister Joyce Gunter, and brother-in-law Herschel Gunter.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m, to 8 p.m. on Thursday March, 24, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Sesser, IL.  Services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday March 25, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Sesser.

Lois Lavern Key – Benton, IL

Larry Beaty – Dahlgren, IL

DAHLGREN — Larry Beaty, 65, passed away Saturday morning, March 19, 2016, in Hamilton Memorial Hospital Emergency Room.

beatyMr. Beaty was born Nov. 28, 1950, in Christopher, the son of Howard and Ione (Mundell) Beaty.

He married Cheri (Piper) on June 19, 1977, in New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Benton by the Rev. Sandy Bain, and she survives.

Mr. Beaty retired from Continental General Tire. He liked to fish, and nothing made him happier than having all of his family around the pond fishing with him.

He lived for his family, he loved his children and grandchildren, and he was an avid Cardinals fan.

Survivors include his wife, Cheri Beaty of Dahlgren; daughter, Tracy Norris and husband, Brian, of Benton; two sons, Wes Beaty and wife, Jessica, of Christopher and Nathan Beaty and wife, Katrina, of Ewing; grandchildren, Isaac, Olivia, Caleb, Logan, Aiden, Trevor and Trace; mother, Ione Beaty of Ewing; mother-in-law, Margey Piper of McLeansboro; three sisters, Linda Howard and husband, Larry, of Mount Vernon, Delenise Sneed and husband, Dennis, of Benton and Debbie Burzynski and husband, Russel, of Paducah; and his dog, Hurley.

He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Beaty; father-in-law, Theodore “Ted” Piper; son, Adam Beaty; and grandparents.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, in Johnston Funeral Home in Ina with the Rev. Sandy Bain officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery in Whittington. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to a college fund established for his grandchildren.

Dustin Lee Galloway – Du Quoin, IL

DU QUOIN — Dustin Lee Galloway, 32, died Tuesday, March 15, 2016, in St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia.

Dustin was born Aug. 24, 1983, in Pinckneyville, to Clint and Patricia (Swayne) Galloway. Both Survive and live in West Frankfort.

Survivors also include sisters, Kristy Galloway and Dustin Scronce of Du Quoin, brother, Garrett Galloway and Brandy of West Frankfort; nieces and nephews, Erin, Danika, and Korbin Sconce, and Annabella, and Dominic Galloway.

Dustin was an avid race car, football and wrestling fan, and enjoyed watching the food network channel. He loved his nieces and nephews very much and never met a stranger.

Private funeral services were at noon Friday, March 18, in Hammond Cemetery in Sesser. Burial followed.

Lucille M. Harvey — Benton, IL

BENTON — Lucille M. Harvey, 95, of Benton, passed away at 6:55 a.m., on Thursday, March 17, 2016, at the Stonebridge Senior Living Center, Benton, IL.

harveyMrs. Harvey was born on March 14, 1921, to George and Elizabeth (Samson) Palmer in Los Angeles, CA.  She married James “Jim” R. Harvey.  Lucille was a retired dance instructor.   She was a loving mother and grandmother.  Lucille was a positive person and enjoyed dancing, gardening, sewing and watching sports.  Lucille was musically talented and enjoyed playing the piano. 

Lucille is survived by her five children, Kathy Winemiller and husband Ferrell of Benton, IL, Harry Decker of Big Water, UT, Stan Harvey of Dallas, TX, Becky Harben of Marion, IL and Debby Beger and husband Larry of Monticello, FL; twelve grandchildren, Greg Martin and wife Julie, Leslie Donovan and husband Mike, Lindsay Johnson, Niki Jones and husband Jeremy, Jamie Lampley and husband Michael, Marci Tarlton and husband Jeff, Lily Harvey, Bruno Harvey, Jake Harvey, Kirk Beger, Kari Beger and Olivia Beger; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Bill Palmer of Paonia, CA and one sister, Sarah Jean Jones of Richmond, VA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Elizabeth Palmer, husband, James “Jim” R. Harvey and son-in-law, Mark Harben.

Cremation will be held per Lucille’s wishes, services will be private.

Marietta “Rita” Williams – Benton, IL

BENTON — Marietta “Rita” Williams 77, of Benton passed away at 8:05 P.M. Thursday March 17, 2016 in Fairview Nursing Center in DuQuion.

gilbert obit 3-18She was born January 17, 1939 in Sesser, IL the daughter of Brooks and Marie (Kirkpatrick) Parkinson.

Marietta married Kenneth Williams on June 3, 1957 and they shared 58 years of marriage together.

She retired from Kroger in West Frankfort and had also worked at the Kroger stores in Benton and DuQuoin.  She was a member of the Bear Point Free Will Baptist Church in Sesser and was a born-again Christian and professed her faith in Jesus Christ.

Marietta enjoyed her many years of work at Kroger and the many friends she made there.  She also enjoyed being at home and camping and gardening.

She is survived by her husband Kenneth Williams of Benton, two sons Kenneth Williams of Victoria, TX, and Terry Williams of Benton, IL.  4 Granddaughters Leah Wright of Murphysboro, Rachel (Tyson) Hawks of Florida, Kristen (Bruce) Meskil of Sandoval, and Sarah (Josh) Anderson of Odin, One Grandson Drew Williams of Benton. Three Great Granddaughters Ava Hawks, Gracie Meskil and Mara Williams, Two Brothers Ray (Donna) Parkinson and Daniel (Cynthia) Parkinson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Warren Parkinson and Noel Parkinson, and one sister Ailene Bays.

Funeral services will be on Monday March 21, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at the Bear Point Freewill Baptist Church in Sesser, with Brother Larry Cook officiating.  Visitation will be on Monday March 21, 2016 from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service at 1:00 P.M. at the church.  Entombment will be at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Sesser. 

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Bear Point Freewill Baptist Church in Sesser, envelopes will be available at the church.

Roger F. Summers – Marion, KY

Roger F. Summers, 77, of Marion, KY passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at his home.

He was born in Meeteetse, WY on September 7, 1938, the son of Freeman and Ruth (Sadler) Summers.

He was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church, in Benton. Mr. summers loved to trade all kinds of things. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and antique tractors. He was a accomplished wood carver.

Mr. Summers is survived by his wife Cyndi, of Marion, KY, children Debbie Overturf and husband Harold, of Marion, IL, Mark Summers, Herrin, IL, Alan Summers and wife Sara, Carterville, IL and Donald “Buddy” Seibert, Moutain View, MO; one sister Frances Avery, Valier, IL, one brother R.K. “Ron” Summers and wife Kay of Thompsonville, IL; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Summers was preceded in death by his parents and by a daughter-in-law Judy Summers.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 19 at Morton & Johnston Funeral Home, in Benton with the Rev. Eddie Paul Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic & Oddfellows Cemetery in Benton. Visitation will be after 9 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

Ida Clementine Razer – Benton, IL

Ida Clementine Razer, 88, of Benton, IL passed away at 5:22 p.m., on Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at Stonebridge Senior Living Center, Benton, IL.

rizer obitShe was born on December 29, 1927 to Joseph and Antonina (Sczibovich) Nowodworski in Benton, IL. Ida was a 1945 graduate from Benton Consolidated High School. She married Chester Razer and he proceeded her in death.

 Ida was a homemaker, a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Benton, IL., and a proud lifetime resident of Benton.  She was a loving mother and grandmother.  Ida enjoyed cooking polish food and had a special passion for animals.

 Ida is survived by her two children, Antoinette White and husband Mark of Charleston, WV, and Chester Razer and wife Barbara of Sparta, IL; three grandchildren, Rachel White-Derr and husband Andy of Pittsburgh, PA, Dr. Andrew White of Denver, CO, and Abby Benson Razer of Carbondale, IL.

 She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Antonina Nowodworski; husband, Chester Razer; a grandchild, Hedy Benson Razer; a sister and five brothers.

Benton, IL — Dorothy Roberts, age 78, formerly of Benton, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at her daughter’s home in Barnhart, Missouri, with her family by her side.

Dorothy was born on February 26, 1938 in Logan, IL, the daughter of Freeman Burns and Vienna (Childs) Burns. She married Floyd Wilson Roberts on April 9, 1954, and he preceded her in death on September 11, 2008.

Dorothy was a former housekeeper and Certified Nurse Assistant.

Mrs. Roberts enjoyed reading, quilting, antiquing, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her five children: Laura Karch and husband Carl of Barnhart, MO, Michael Roberts and fiancee Jody Lilly and Jody’s daughter Rachel Nichole Lilly of La Porte, IN, Rhonda Dickson and husband John of Marion, IL, Sandy King and husband Mark of West Frankfort, IL, Kenneth Roberts and fiancee Julie Hayes of Carmi, IL; fifteen grandchildren: Michelle Lynn Karch, Timothy Shawn Karch, Charles Jason Roberts, Joshua Michael Roberts, Tyler Wilson Roberts, Kaleb James Roberts, Brock Arthur Roberts, Kaitlin Reyna Roberts, Brittany Adair Dickson, John Austin Dickson, Bailey Renee Dickson, Bradley David Schram, Kristen Faye Englebright, Brent Michael Schram, Kayla Roberts, eighteen great-grandchildren; a sister Nancy Lampley of Benton; two brothers: Jeff Cohoon of Sparta, IL, Charles Burns of Joliet; and several nieces and nephews.
