Russell “Russ Ra” E. Stringham – De Soto, IL

Russell “Russ Ra” E. Stringham, 72, of De Soto, IL, passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2022, at Herrin Hospital, Herrin, IL.

He was born on May 27, 1950, to Claude and Loretta (Bussey) Stringham in Nassau County, New York.

Russell was of the Catholic faith. He enjoyed photography and fishing. He loved the Grateful Dead and nature, watching the moon and stars at night.

Russell is survived by his daughter, Lauren; a brother, Ernest W. Stringham; his sister, Emily M. Bebe and his special companion, Debra Garro.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude R. and Loretta M. Stringham.

Services have been entrusted to Pate Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., Benton, IL.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., at the Pate Funeral Home, Benton, IL, with Father Urban Osuji, officiating.

Jon David Mann – West City, IL

Jon David Mann, age 73, of West City, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2022, at the Deaconess Midtown Hospital of Evansville, Indiana.

Mr. Mann’s wishes are to be cremated with no public services.

Cremation arrangements are with the Leffler Funeral Home of Benton.
Jon was born on June 23,1949 in Broughton, Illinois. He was adopted and raised by Carl V. Mann and Allison Mann. He married the former
Joyce A. Carney in 1970, and she survives.

He joined the U.S. Navy; but was injured during basic training and was discharged.

Jon was a former Water Department Superintendent in Marion, Illinois. And he was a member of Laborer’s Local 773.
Jon enjoyed camping, fishing, and talking to other people.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Joyce A. Mann of West City; two children: Jonathan Mann of Johnston City, Illinois, Jennifer Mann of West City, Illinois; four grandchildren: Miranda Johns and Zachary Johns of West City, Illinois, Michael Mann of Pennsylvania, and Brittany Mann of Johnston City, Illinois; a great-granddaughter Ellie; and numerous other friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers.

Theodore Lewis Lane, 86, of Christopher, passed away on Monday July 11, 2022 at the VA Medical Center in Marion, IL.

Victor Hugo Sauerhage, Sr. – Benton, IL

Victor Hugo Sauerhage, Sr., 81, of Benton passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Health in Mt. Vernon.

He was born in Hurst, IL on November 14, 1940 the son of Raymond James & Bertha Mae (Ticer) Sauerhage.

He married Barbara Sue (Moore) on November 28, 1960 and she survives.

Mr. Sauerhage was a member of Steel City Baptist Church. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a coal miner for 30 years working for Old Ben #26, Inland Steel in McLeansboro and then Consol at Sesser. His greatest love was camping and the outdoors.

Patricia Kelley – Buckner, IL

Patricia Ann Kelley, age 73, of Buckner, passed away at 11:35 a.m. Friday, July 8, 2022, at the SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital of Mt. Vernon, Illinois.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2022, at the Leffler Funeral Home, of Benton, with Pastor Don Bullard officiating. Burial will be in the Denning Cemetery of West Frankfort. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2022, at the Leffler Funeral Home of Benton.

Patricia Ann was born on February 10, 1949, in Chicago Heights, Illinois; the daughter of Norman Teel and Anna Mae (Wininger) Teel.
During her working days, she was a CNA and later the Social Services Director with Parkview Nursing Home of West Frankfort.
She attended the Jackson Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Benton.

Pat enjoyed reading her Bible, writing poems, cooking, and working in her yard. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are four loving daughters: Kim Akin and husband Victor of Valier, Illinois, Cheryl Kelley and partner Michelle Cardenas of Buckner, Illinois, Rhonda Cardwell and husband Ronnie of Thompsonville, Illinois, Melissa Holmes and husband John of Buckner, Illinois; five grandchildren: Jared Akin(Tessa), Jordon Akin, Austin Fisher(Josh), Andrew Saunders(Olivia), Amanda Saunders; eight great-grandchildren: Patience, Jude, Phoenix, Addyson, Dane, Annabelle, Willow, Marlow; the daughter’s father: Ronnie Kelley of Buckner, Illinois; three siblings: Joseph Teel and wife Ruth of West Frankfort, Illinois, Gerald Delgy and wife Dee of Reno, Nevada, Kathy Harris of California; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father Norman Teel, mother Anna Mae Delgy, step-father Thomas Delgy, and a sister Carolyn Delgy.

Delbert Lee WInemiller – Akin, IL

Delbert Lee WInemiller, 74, of Akin passed away Thursday morning, July 7, 2022 at his home.

He was born in Whittington, IL on September 18, 1947 the son of William & Lillian (Whittington) Winemiller.

He married Sheryl (Hannenberg) on July 16, 1966, and she survives.

Delbert was Water Superintendent for Corinth, then became Water Superintendent for Akin Water District on May 1, 2000 to April of 2022. He was a member & Deacon of Jackson Grove Baptist Church, a member of the IBEW, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Fan. He was crazy about his family, especially his grandkids & great-grandkids.

Larry Reaney-Mulkeytown, IL

Larry James Reaney, age 78, of Royalton, Illinois, passed away peacefully at Du Quoin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, on July 5th, 2022.

He was preceded in death by wife, Linda (Berner) Reaney, his parents Harold and Viola (Dodson) Reaney, brother Harold Wayne Reaney, and sister Emmarillis Joann Hopper. He is survived by his daughter Angela Reaney of Royalton, Illinois, Scott Reaney of Delta Junction, Alaska, and grandchildren Brooklyn Reaney, Taylor Reaney, and Phoebe Reaney. Larry was a coal miner. He enjoyed rabbit hunting, raising beagles, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals.

Graveside services for Larry will be on Saturday July 9, 2022 at 1:00 PM at the Mulkeytown Cemetery with Rev. Kurt Jensen officiating. Burial will be at Mulkeytown Cemetery.

Keith Michael Bullock-Mulkeytown, IL

Keith Michael Bullock, 44, of Mulkeytown, passed away on July 3, 2022.

He was born on March 29, 1978 in Pinckneyville, IL to Doyle and Debra (Croft) Bullock.

James R. Danielson- Christopher, IL

James R. Danielson, age 77, passed away peacefully with his family surrounding him on June 30, 2022 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital ICU.

He was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia on June 22, 2022 and was flown to Barnes early the next morning.

Jim was born to Delbert and Mildred Danielson in El Dorado, Kansas on March 19, 1945. He leaves behind his wife, Elaine of 18 1/2 years; son James (Cathrine) and daughters Dawn and Tracey (Ethan). He also leaves behind four brothers: Mike, Doug, Ron and Gilbert, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Mildred and 1 brother, Gene.

He worked at Sara Lee for many years before going to North Chicago VA Hospital where he retired as Supervisor EICM after 16 1/2 years of service. After moving to Southern IL, he worked for Beck/Durham Bus Service and recently retired after more than 13 years. Jim was known for his outgoing, fun loving personality. He loved being a school bus driver and taking care of “his kids” as he called them. He was an avid fisherman in earlier years, enjoyed gardening and rooting for the Cubs. He was a lifetime member of VFW District #5, Post 4308 of Lake Villa, IL. He was a former district commander and recently resigned as Sergeant-At-Arms for the State of IL. Jim was truly loved and will be missed deeply by family and friends.

A military service for Jim will be help on Sunday July 3, 2022 at 9:45 AM at the Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher. Visitation will be on Sunday July 3, 2022 from 8:00 AM until the time of the service at 9:45 AM.

James Calvin Stoffel – Benton, IL

James Calvin Stoffel, 97, of Benton IL, passed peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, June 26 in Gresham, Oregon.

The graveside service will be held Saturday, July 2 at 12:00 noon at the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery located at 12740 Oddfellow Ln, Benton, IL 62812 with Rev. Mark Minor officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Benton American Legion Post #280, VFW Post #2671 and the U.S. Army Honors Team. In lieu of flowers, plants and other gifts please consider a donation to Independence Fund Inc., a nonprofit that supports injured veterans.

Calvin was born on Jan. 24, 1925 in Franklin County, Illinois to Rothel and Pruda Belva (Uhls) Stoffel. He married Catherine Rose Kingsley in 1950. After her passing he married his long time friend, Virginia Lee Genisio in 1994.
James served in WWII in Patton’s 3rd Army, where he dug foxholes all the way across France and Germany. After the military he worked for the US Postal Service for his entire career.

He was kind to a fault and loved being a brother, husband, father, and grandfather.
He was a hard worker and loved sports (the Cubs in particular). He enjoyed growing tomatoes, eating chocolate, and getting peaches at the orchard in the summer. As he aged his appreciation for nature’s beauty, particularly flowers, only grew.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Catherine Rose Stoffel and Virginia Lee Stoffel; his parents; his brother, William Howard Stoffel; his sisters, Evadine Stoffel, E. Lorene Stoffel, and Belva Madelyn Vercellino; and his son, Dennis Stoffel.

He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Schultz Vitangeli; grandson, Alexander Schultz; granddaughter, Danielle Schultz, and nephews, Ron Stoffel, Keith Stoffel and Bruce Stoffel. Through his marriage with Virginia, he was gifted with more children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He loved them all and they enriched his life.
