Thankfully, a heroic citizen with a permit to legally carry a concealed handgun was able to save countless lives in Florida Saturday when he shot a gunman who opened fire on a back-to-school event attended by over 150 students at a park in Titusville, Florida.

People often complain about the increased security measures necessary in today’s world. Lines at airports are too long. Two forms of identification are required to get money out of the bank. Log-in names and passwords are needed to access sensitive information online. But people want to feel secure on many levels, especially in their interpersonal relationships—and, more importantly, in their relationship with God.
“I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges My name. He will call on Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him” (Psalm 91:14–15).
Ultimate security, of course, can be found only in God. He is our source of help in times of trouble. Nothing that happens to us is a surprise to Him. He loves us and promises to be with us through everything.
Challenge for Today: Remember that the most important security available is in Christ Jesus.

The Bible tells us that Noah listened to God. And what did he hear? He heard God’s warning that the world was going to be destroyed. He believed what he had not yet seen. That’s what faith is — being certain of something we don’t see.
Noah didn’t turn away from the vision God had given him. Instead, he built the ark.
God is going to give you a goal for your life, and some people may think it’s pretty crazy. But you have to stay focused on what you know God has said through his Word, the Bible. Then, you have to go build your ark!
In the crazy, topsy-turvy year of 2018, socialism is somehow on the rise in America. To those of us unfortunate enough to have been born in the Soviet Union, this is troubling.

Proverbs 6:16
What do you hate more than anything on earth? Is it spinach, sauer kraut, cough syrup, lies, or losing? Maybe it’s coming in any place but first. In today’s letter we’ll hear about the first of 6 things that God hates, seven that he finds detestable.
In Proverbs chapter 6 and verse 16 we read, “There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to Him: haughty eyes…”
Have you ever seen the swagger of a returning champion? That’s what haughty eyes look like. They’re proud of themselves and they haven’t even won anything yet!
Haughty eyes are proud, arrogant and filled with selfishness. They look down on others as they perceive everyone else as inferior. They wear their superior glasses as they look in the mirror of vanity.
Rather than being like those with haughty eyes, choose humility. Put away arrogance and pride and take on a humble attitude toward your teammates and opponents. Let your speed, strength and endurance speak for you and you won’t have to run your mouth nearly as much.
Make this a great day of competition and choose to compete humbly. In doing so you will avoid displaying the haughty attitude God hates.
Then John gave this testimony: “I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. I would not have known him, except that the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is he who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’ I have seen and I testify that this is the Son of God.”

The distraction of pleasure. It’s okay to have fun and feel comfort, but if that’s the primary focus of your life, you will never fulfill your destiny.
The distraction of profits. You can’t serve both God and money. Making a profit shouldn’t be the primary focus of your life.
The distraction of possessions. Judging your success by how much stuff you own will keep you concerned about keeping things and maintaining things.
If you are going to fulfill the mission God has given you, you must dare to be different from others. Stay focused on the most important thing: your relationship with Jesus Christ.
Across the country, football practice will soon begin for high schools, colleges and even Pop Warner teams. Around 1.2 million kids, the vast majority being boys, but some girls too, will strap on their pads and head out into the summer heat to begin a season that won’t end until the fall air turns crisp. As impressive as that 1.2 million number sounds, it’s down by as much as 20 percent in some parts of the country.
